  1. My mate measured mine the other week, 103db at 5750rpm, non-res, 2nd cat delete. Exhaust has 6k+ miles on it. 45 degrees at 1m, mildly warm day in a wide valley, FYI.

    My Fensport remap lowered the start-up noise considerably. But I'm still not happy with the overall noise level and even though I don't want to pay any company even more money to fix a problem that is their own fault in the first place, I'll probably end up buying a resonator section at some point. I wish I had the spare cash to just get a more reputable system and show them the middle finger.

  2. I have Focal PS165 which are components, which I recommend for sound quality over 2-ways, but they will require alot more work to install. Even if you put a single component 6.5" in and keep the OEM tweeters then you will notice a significant difference in sound quality as the stock ones are awful.

    I had to make a custom mounting baffle out of 1/4" MDF as I couldn't find an adapter to fit aftermarket speakers to the Toyota 3-bolt bracket anywhere. My speakers are the same depth as yours and clear the window by about 1/8" so you may be very close if your baffle isn't very thick.

  3. If it was running with poor oil circulation for a period of time then there may be damage to the internals of the engine, it's questionable as to whether the circulation was running effectively whilst you was driving (as you should have had a oil level light or CEL if it was abnormal condition). It may be that your engine was getting enough oil when it was running and you were lucky that it had no effect.

    But we don't know if it was OK or not, internals may have sustained damage which may not be detectable by any checks they can do unless they strip the engine (even then they may not know now). Most internals will have worn significantly faster than normal, and may have sustained damage from lack of lubrication and cooling. Problems from this may not arise for years- after the warranty expires, and damage of this type of nature could blow your engine apart which is not a cheap repair!

    Toyota would immediately reject any claim for warranty if it was YOUR fault for letting an engine run with oil, so by principle they should accept responsibility on damaging your engine and replace it. As the issue was 100% their fault, I don't think they can decline this, though I expect they will fight against it. Make it clear to them that you are prepared to escalate the claim. If you don't want to make a fuss, at least get an extended engine warranty.

    Easy mistake for them to make, but it will cost them if they are honourable.

  4. @Rob

    The guy I spoke to at Cobra said that Jay's was produced on the same jig that the rest of ours were, his was not a prototype or any different from ours, I'm told.

    @Mark

    I contacted you for help and you didn't even show enough courtesy to send a reply but instead asked Keith to talk to me about what's going on with his car.

    Saying you 'told us so' about the volume doesn't help, we had our own opinions based on hearing Jay's as we did not know that we were going to get a different system (I never saw you state that either). You can't expect us to trust your opinion over our own after hearing the 'advertised' product.

  5. I had mine on for 5 months and did 6000 miles, and though it did quieten a little when carboned up, it was still stupidly loud even with the stock 2nd cat put back on.

    I remember yours at the exhaust meet last year when it was relatively new, and even then it was so much quieter than mine is with 6000 miles on it. I was constantly paranoid that it was blowing somewhere, but never was.

  6. I have been talking to Cobra about how unbearably loud my non-resonated system is and though they deny that there is any difference between mine and Jay's, they are keen to work something out to resolve this issue. My request was to supply resonators to us at production cost.

    They will be offering reduced price resonator sections to us, but I need to give them an estimate of buyers so that they can work out how much they can supply them to us for (the bigger the batch the lower the production cost).

    So, if anyone is interested in fitting a resonator section then please leave your name, it's not a commitment, as price can't be given until we have a gauge of interest.
