Gutted! My Gt86 hit by dozy pillock

If I were you, I would insist that it is repaired by a Toyota approved body shop (preferably RRG Toyota). Otherwise, not sure what could happen to your Toyota 5 year warranty down the line.

    Badge part numbers

Have a chat to Richard from RRG (Riceburner). He got them for me when I went for the satin black badges on my car. I am pretty sure they did not cost me anything close to £25 each. I have ordered a number of times from Amayama, and every order has been hit with import duty costs and the Parcel Farce handling cost rip off. One order, the charges were greater than what I paid for the contents!

Without doubt the nicest and best GT86 build going on ANY of the forums!

    Pitman's Toyota Sprint Series car

Reyland claim their disc's are direct replacements for AP, I am not sure though if they make them in the size I was after. Once the car is finished and on the road (track?) I may do a back to back trial. I work within easy hearing distance of Donington Park, so will have to do at least one test / track day there when I am setting the car up

    Pitman's Toyota Sprint Series car

Reyland do have the right reputation and credentials for me They have been supplied with an upright, hub, caliper and wheel rim. That way, I am covered if there is a fitment issue . I got the discs through them, and what I liked about their service, they would not just accept my spec, but wanted to know what calipers and pads I would be using, to ensure that there was sufficient depth for them. In order to minimise the unsprung weight, whilst still going for a decent diameter, I an using an 8" pcd bell. I will also be fitting (proper) ducted cooling for the discs. As far as the Wilwood calipers go, it tool a lot of research and investigation before I decided to go with them. I have never been a great fan of Wilwood calipers, very much lumping hem with the cheap Taiwanese calipers favoured by the Saxo and Corsa crowd . The ones I have gone with seam to be in a totally different league, though, being made from forged billets rather than just being cast. If they don't work out, I will replace them with AP Racing CP5219s

Nor sure what you mean? With a turbo engine, the best exhaust post the turbo is no exhaust. That being the case, within reason, the bigger the better . When the exhaust on my GT86 was changed from 2.5" to 3" and Adrian remapped it I got an extra 15 bhp. The engine is being rebuilt to a full race spec, with JUN cams, Forged low compression CP pistons, forged Crowler rods, ARP head and main bearing studs, Crowler valve springs complete with titanium retainers etc. Custom spec'ed Garrett GTR ball bearing turbo with uprated bearings, heatshield and billet compressor wheel So it will be a high RPM screamer

Thank you, Rich. I am busy compiling a bit shopping list for you - the bearings and oilseals for the gearbox as we discussed the other day, as well as various fasteners for putting the whole thing back together again

Nige - you know you are welcome anytime . You will have to negotiate with my resident welder - as you can see in one of the pictures above, I have bought him both a TIG and a MIG welder - he has lots of practice ahead of himself doing all the welding I require on my race Yaris

Thank you, Mark. The problem / challenge with building something like a full race spec Yaris is that race spec bits are not very plentiful, so a LOT of searching, and make it yourself from scratch is required. All this takes time, but does definitely add to the enjoyment factor. As an example, the roll cage was made to order in Italy, with a two month lead time. Although it is listed by the likes of Demon Tweeks, when I came to buy it, I was told that it was a special order item. Likewise with the turbo exhaust and inlet system, the only really viable option is for me to make the manifolds myself from scratch. I am seriously trying to get the car finished in time, though to be able to do the last couple of rounds of the TSS this year.

    Pitman's Toyota Sprint Series car

It has been a while since I last updated - this does not mean, however, that I have not been busy on the car TRD Plate LSD for the gearbox courtesy of those nice people at Fensport Forged Wilwood radial mount calipers and AP Racing discs - the bells and mounting brackets are being made for me at the moment Stainless braided brake flex hoses Lightweight steering column with quick release and Nardi-Personal steering wheel I cutout the spare wheel well behind the rear axle to make space for the rear muffler i am going to be using - after having had my GT86 effectively banned from entering the TSS due to its noise level, I will be running a high flow, but hopefully effective 3" exhaust on the Yaris. Once the well was cut out, a flat steel panel was cut out to fill the resulting hole, and welded in by my resident welder As I commented in Nige's thread, I am now in the process of removing all the seam sealer inside the body, and fitting the roll cage Once the cage is in, I will be able to establish the right position for the seat, and then can weld in the seat mounting brackets Both the roll cage and the seat are OMP FIA certified items, so that should keep any scrutineers happy . I have also ordered a genuine Takata 6 point race harness, especially for Lauren

I will update my build thread after the weekend, Rob when there is something worthwhile to show Edit - I have posted a few boring pictures in my TSS Yaris build thread, just to prove that there is progress being made

    Nige's Wide Body Project

Nige, it will all be worth it in the end. The problem is that you, like me, are a perfectionist, and good enough is just not good enough! I am also having lots of fun at the moment with my race Yaris - removing all the seam sealer inside, and getting the roll cage to fit properly, so that it can be welded in

    Nige's Wide Body Project

This could potentially open up a very big can of worms. Is the original protected by copyright? When is something a copy, or a replica inspired by the original? What is not legal is making a copy of an original item, and selling it on, claiming it to be the original. Nige has, through his great posts, clearly shown that he has made his own plug, from which he will be making what can at best be described as a replica of the original. A very large portion of Knight Rider/Racer (I cannot remember which is is, and cannot be arsed to look) body kit, which are openly advertised on eBay and else where, are blatant copies of the original. They do not try to pass them off as the original, though, which is I guess how they get around the illegality of selling fakes / knock-offs.

Great write-up, Keith Between you and Nige, you are truly building awesome cars . You are making my Yaris Sprint car build look very mundane

    Pitman's Toyota Sprint Series car

Thank you :-) I made the pedal box, Nige. Amazing what you can do with a drill press, vice, hacksaw and file when you put your mind to it! For what ever reason, the Yaris has never taken off in the tuner after market, so I am having to make a lot of the bits myself. Hence my now having bought a Tig welder, lathe and being in the market for a milling machine as per our earlier pm chat.

Guess it is time to post a few more pics CNC machined collector for the turbo exhaust manifold Billet ball raced turbo, Jenvey Throttle body and billet fuel rail Adjustable bias brake pedal box Quick shift gear lever with solid mounts and brass bushes for the cables Hopefully I will get the fully adjustable (for both caster and camber) front suspension lower arms finished this weekend, and then I can start planning on putting it all together . The Back Axle is jsut about finished (still in kit form, though) - Whiteline ARB and poly bushes. I just need to make the shims to increase the camber, then it can all be bolted together.

I think that I am one of the few people fortunate enough to have the privilege to see the work going into Nige's car first hand - it is really going to be something very special when it is finished. Nige has definitely made me raise the bar big time in the building of my race car

    Nige's Wide Body Project

The problem is, unless the moulding is fully supported, it will always sag and loose its shape. Best is to leave it in the hot sun for a few hours, and then clamp it in place. i had exactly the same issue with a Knight Racer semi carbon TRD front bumper spoiler I have. One I had 'softened' it, I fitted it onto a spare bumper I have, and have left it on the bumper, to help it keep its shape (I still haven't decided if I actually want to fit the TRD body kit to my say, so it is packed away in my storage lockup)
