  1. I'd probably be tripleing that sort of cost and you'd want to be very careful with the valving and spring rates that you specified. It's taken me a good couple of years to get mine to that sort of place and I've been through about 8 different spring rate and valving set ups along the way.
For more reasonable costs it's tough to beat the flex a's or ohlins imho
Thanks for sharing your experience - it seems like it could easily turn into an obsession getting it 'just right'!

A coilover with higher spring rates being more comfortable than stock is a VERY subjective thing.

B6 and B8 are valved exactly the same. The only difference is the b8 has a short stroke length.

Sorry to resurrect this, but is it impossible to lower a car on suitable coilovers and retain the level of comfort of stock suspension? To my mind if there's a shorter length of travel for springs and dampers to deal with then you aren't going to achieve the same level of comfort no matter how amazing the components are?

Unfortunately I suspect it's a case of not being able to have your cake and eat it, but I would love to hear if someone's achieved this holy grail for daily drivers!

  3. Ok so this may be the lamest question ever, but what's the consensus on which aftermarket exhaust is the least noisy? Particularly for drone at motorway speeds? I'd love to hear a bit more burble from the exhaust, but it's my daily driver and I want to keep my sanity and hear my music!

I have a TD decat UEL manifold so that's obviously increased the noise a little bit but I want more... but only a teeny bit more haha

  4. Due to house moves, job change, general life getting the way stuff I've not done a mod on the BRZ for an eternity, but tonight the stars aligned. My tools came out of storage, the weather was good, there was no World Cup and I remembered to bring home my recent package from across the pond. Perfect.

Now you all know by now that I don't go in for the frivolous modding business, wasting your hard earned on bits and pieces of performance and bling. So when I get the allen keys out, you know it's preventative maintenance or safety related. This is both. I've noticed a bit of a rattle from the stick area at high revs and the other day the gear position badge popped off. So I decided to deal with matters, before maintenance it turned into a serious safety issue.

Tired old nob, well thumbed, not all that satisfying to hold and with quite a lot of stubborn, foul smelling, greasy build up around the very top.

I picked up this luuurrrveerrrrly bit of kit from Raceseng in the US, yeah you get stung on shipping and taxes, but it's two gorgeous pieces of machine work.

Hopefully my rattles are gone and I'll enjoy the feel of a heftier, more bulbous nob for years to come.

The eagle eyed amongst you may notice that I failed to get my sheath back in position before the money shot, I was just a bit too excited and the camera just went off in my hand, before I had time to withdraw. It happens...

A very commendable piece of safety related maintenance there. It's always reassuring to know that a fellow is treating his stick with the appropriate prophylactic approach before handling.

  5. Thinking of upgrading my head unit & just wondering if there are any Kenwood, alpine etc units that fit without having to use th horrible side extenders
Welcome to see the Toyota specific android headunit in mine since you're local. I think Kenwood do a 200mm wide unit but I forget the name of it.

  6. A fortnight ago I took my car to Mike at Tuning Developments to work his magic. I opted for the UEL manifold as I wanted that characteristic burble to the exhaust note. Mike also persuaded me to have uprated shifter springs fitted.

Firstly I want to say how friendly and knowledgeable Mike was. I've never had a car tuned on a rolling road before, and Mike put me at ease and answered all my questions.

Two weeks in and I can say that I'm really pleased with the better midrange torque the GT86 now has. Combined with the more positive gear change, the car is an absolute joy to drive.

In terms of acoustics, I haven't changed anything else so have the factory second cat and catback exhaust. It's only marginally louder and not intrusive at motorway speeds. If anything it's making me reconsider whether I would actually want a louder exhaust as that boxer burble is so wonderful!

One very minor side effect to mention is that there is a very small increase in NVH into the cabin, which I suspect is from the unequal exhaust pulses.

Another thing to note for anyone who would like to use this as a first step towards a turbo in the future, Mike explained to me it wouldn't be possible to keep the second cat if turbocharging. Come MOT time one would have to swap a cat back in. For my personal circumstances and preferences, this rules out a turbo for me as I don't have the time or facility to change a cat in and out.

Overall I am happy to recommend this tuning package. It's great value for money and well worth the trip!6f27a3ee0f57697c2189a1cf4d18ff93.jpgc3bc0a9d00fb677c398098d513eef51a.jpg

  7. Crossover is essentially  the High Pass/ Low Pass Filter.

Sorry I meant that the focals have built in crossovers that separate frequencies between the tweeters and the mid-bass units.

I've high passed the focals at 100hz and low passed the subwoofer at about 90hz.

I will double check to make sure this is indeed the case, and I haven't toggled some odd setting on the amp though!
