  1. This came on the car when I bought it, but the colour doesn't figure in my future plans so I'm going to put the original black on on for now... this is only available via import, and with taxes and shipping I believe it comes in at around £85-95 from Japan

Only been on the car for around 1000-1500 miles so as good as new

This one will be £50 posted to anywhere in the UK, or £45 collected from Stratford-upon-Avon (Midlands - CV37)

  2. ...err, ok, my previous car history is a little mixed:

1996-97 - 1982 Mini Mayfair 998cc (bought on my 16th Birthday and fixed up over the year before I could start driving it)
    1997-98 - 1989 Ford Fiesta 1.1L
1998-99 - 1994 Rover 214Si 3 door (although I think I drove the courtesy car more than this due to needing 3 replacement engines and 4 head gaskets)
    1999-01 - 1996 Peugeot 306 XSi
    2001-04 - 1991 Toyota MK2 MR2 (revision 1 - N/A)
    2004-04 - 1992 Toyota MK2 MR2 (revision 2 - Turbo T-bar)
    2004-08 - 1997 Peugeot 306 XS
    2008-12 - 2000 Toyota MK2 MR2 (revision 5 - N/A T-bar)
2008-09 - 2005 Ford StreetKa (technically mine, although it was for the wife)
    2009-13 - 2008 Ford Focus Wolf Edition
    2012-13 - 1994 Toyota MK2 MR2 (revision 3 - N/A tintop)
2013-14 - 2005 Mini Cooper Convertible (again, technically mine, although bought for the wife to drive)
    2013-13 - 2004 Mini Cooper S
    2013-17 - 1997 Toyota MK2 MR2 (revision 4 - Turbo TRD 2000GT)
2014-Pres. - 2008 BMW 120d Convertible (again, technically I'm the owner but it's for the wife)
    2017-Pres. - 2013 Toyota GT86 Supercharged

Seriously just change the pads if it's an issue. I've run Stoptech pads for 18 months. They hardly ever squeak. You can opt for a softer pad, but your dealer would need to get it in, but it won't take the abuse as well as the stock pads.

I'll get them changed over at some point then... it does bug me a little I must admit

Although it can get very embarrassing when you are coming up to some lights and you lightly press the brake and people walking around have to cover their ears

Exactly my thinking... having a gorgeous looking car only to have it ruined by an embarrassing squeak

  5. Driven the car around for a couple of days now, and have noticed that the brakes are pretty squeaky when low load is pressed on them, doesn't when hard braking though... is this a normal trait of the GT86, or is it something I should investigate further? It is due to go for a full service at Toyota in a couple of weeks so should I mention it to them then?

Doesn't the satnav function require a separate hardware module, and not just a licence for the standard head unit?

I'm not sure... thinking about it it must at least have an external aerial/antenna...

Thanks for the replies everyone... I think I'll box it up safely and store it for now then... no point selling for peanuts

  7. Hi all, having taken full time ownership at long last of my GT86, I shall be fitting my Pioneer App Radio in the next week or so so I shall have a standard navigation head unit that I shall have no use for... apologies if this in the wrong place, still finding my way around... but could anyone shed some light as the value that this is worth? It doesn't have the license for the navigation system unfortunately.

  8. Well, the MR2's now been completely paid for so it's now off the road waiting for collection on Saturday... with that in mind I didn't want to be driving it around with the possibility of someone driving into it and damaging it for the new owner...

...so, I've taken full time ownership of the GT86 a week early :D

    ...sooooo happy right now!!

Congrats and welcome to the club Chris, another fellow midlander :D  I too remember seeing that MR2 at JAE over the years, will you be sticking with the MR2 lot this year at JAE?  As Rob mentioned, we will be attending but sharing the plot with the IMOC lot, we'd love you to join us if you can!  Also interested in knowing what plans you have on the already well equipped 86 you've brought.

Thanks for the welcome... yes I'll be sticking with the MR2OC guys this year as we're mid way through the organising, and I've made loads of life-long friends through that club. I know a few guys on the IMOC pitch already too though (Scott Barton, Brian Wilkinson, to name but a couple). That's not to say that I won't join you guys for a couple of bevvies and to meet and greet some of you in person over the long weekend.

As for modifications, I'm not entirely sure of any major ones yet in the pipeline, one definite is to get my Pioneer AppRadio from the MR2 into the GT86, but other than that I'm going to drive it, and own it properly for a little while and then make my mind up. I don't want to rush into anything and regret it at a later date.

  10. Hi all, my name's Chris and I have just taken a deposit on my MR2 to be able to take ownership of a lovely Supercharged GT86...

The GT86 is currently stored at my parents house until the 28th January when the MR2 is being collected and driven back to it's new home in Germany (only got a 2 car drive, and traffic wardens have itchy trigger fingers around our area, lol)

I have owned MR2's now for the past 15 years, having one of each revision over that time in various different engine specs (3x N/A's and 2x Turbo's), and the constant requirement to need to work on them every other weekend has made me make the decision to go for something newer and less likely to need maintenance. I have been a member of MR2OC since it's start date back n 2003, and have the privilege to have been made a moderator of the site around 12 years ago, and am also one of the team who organise the clubs presence at JAE on a yearly basis. I am also a member of IMOC too where I am an affiliate as I make and sell gas ram kits to suit the 'frunk' and engine lid.

Some may recognise the GT86 as Fimmo's old car, and yes it is... it's a HKS supercharged 2013 model, with a full mapping session and a full colour matched 5-axis bodykit. There are a few things I want to do to it to make it my own, but I'm in no rush and just want to drive it for now...

Some of you who regularly attend JAE might recognise the MR2 also, at last years show it dragged the TRD Trailer behind it (for a bit of a laugh ;-) )...

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all more over the coming years... and using the forum to gain as much knowledge about the GT86 as I have about the MR2
