  1. I am sure many of you know this car already it's Lauren's old car and it's for sale, a unique opportunity to own one of the best known GT86 in the UK. Having featured in trips around Europe, track-days and a class winning car in the Toyota Sprint Series.

just so everyone is clear this car was stolen from our home in November last year. It was recovered by myself and Lauren about 5 hours later after finding it abandoned in Manchester with a very damaged engine. The insurance was claimed on it, they wrote the car off as a Category N (written off with no structural damage). I then bought the salvage rights to it. It's been sat on our driveway throughout the time the insurance was processed.

    This means that:

    • It will require a replacement engine.
    • It will require a replacement lock / keyless entry set.
    • It will have a Cat N write off marker on the registration.
    • The MOT has expired
    • It is Untaxed (SORN)
    • Given the way it was driven by the thief there maybe other damage eg. to suspension.
    • It will require a trailer to move.

The engine does run, but it sounds very much like there's at least one big-end bearing has failed. It's enough to allow it to be moved about, but it is not drivable. We do have a spare key for it at and the V5C registration document.

Ok, that is the worst bit over!

Overall it is in good condition though, bear in mind it has done 159 thousand miles so there is going to be the usual wear and tear stuff. The odd dent, scratches etc. There is a small section of missing paint on the front bumper just under the Toyota badge.

Of course given it's history it is a very very well setup car in terms of handling and braking and would make a great track-day weapon or competitive entry to the TSS.

  2. Here's a bit of an update on Lauren's old car after it was stolen last year, i wondered if some of you might like to know what happened after.

After we recovered it back home we began the process of claiming on the insurance which was through Greenlight and ERS / Brownsword (the underwriter)

I would say the whole process was extremely slow, it took weeks for an engineer to come out to it to simply agree with me the engine is toast and more weeks before  brownsword made an initial offer. Which was £7000 with an option to buy salvage for 30% of the payout. Initially i refused this as i fully believe it was worth more before the theft. ERS essentially ignored my arguments that it was probably worth the £9000 i had it insured for on the policy.

The other day i messaged them and 'gave in' and accepted the £7000 and took salvage, the matter is settled and the car is mine again after nearly three months!

Now it remains to do something with it, the initial thoughts are to see if it can be sold as a project car for someone in the community, we really would like to see it back on the road and track and not parted out for bits in some kind of slow death given our history with it.

Expect a post soon in the for sale section!

  3. hi Dan,

Lauren and i have been doing trackdays for years and from time to time bought photos. The problem is once you have done a couple, it all gets a bit meh and you don't bother unless there is some dramatic shot that you must have on the wall but that happens rarely. With trackdays you always have the first timers who generally do buy photos but on something like the sprint sales i would expect sales will tail off over time as the same people are there time after time.

Not sure what to suggest going forward, hopefully the numbers of entrants in the series will go up and it'll make it easier for everyone.

  4. Seen a scaling issue using my nexus 7 tab, the new forum logo is scaled wrong for some reason, the old vbulletin logo looked fine so not sure whats happening there, selecting desktop version makes no difference. Same issue on my phone. Both Chrome 27.0.1453.90I would attach the pic but the forum wont let me upload attachments anymore, they have to be less than 20kb??

  5. Waves to everyone...just wanted to say hi to folks, i'm Mark, Lauren's fiancée and currently holding the gt86.org.uk domain. I have met a few of you before and i see a few other familiar faces here too ;-)Dont mind helping out where i can...
