  1. Update: I went to my local Toyota dealer today - Motorline Toyota Gatwick. For reference, I dealt with Aaron the service adviser and Kevin the service technician. Their customer service was excellent, I would be happy to let them service my car when it is due in September.
Anyway, Kevin let me drive first and guess what, with someone else in the car I couldn't recreate the problem. Kevin then had a go and couldn't get it to crunch either. He said it felt like other GT86 boxes and that they tend to feel better at higher revs, it was the way they were designed. Mine certainly does feel perfect at higher revs but I have certainly experienced a light crunch/snatch from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd at low revs on the odd occasion. It is possible I have just got a bit ham fisted after driving my girlfriends Yaris for the past few months. Now that I am aware I have adjusted my technique slightly and I can change every time with no snatch/crunch.    On a side note, crunch might be the wrong word to describe this. A crunch to me is something someone else in the car would notice/hear, this isn't. You just feel it through the gear-stick and it is slight, not major.    Kevin did notice the slightly stiff 3rd to 2nd down shift, the car was still cold and it is freezing outside. For the moment he suggests just keeping an eye on it but he doesn't feel or hear anything different to a normal GT86. He did say at the next service to maybe change the gearbox oil to help with the 3rd to 2nd downshift when cold, but this disappears after a few minutes and that seems to be a common issue anyway so I am not overly concerned by that.    They had 2 ginger aero's down there, one had a turbo on it. So at least they are used to dealing with GT86's to some extent.    I will just keep an eye on this for the moment, I still have 3 and a half years warranty left on it so if anything major happens, I am covered anyway.

Thats my Turbo 86 there today!

Not an Aero - its the aerokit.eu bodykit (replica Vertex) and s-craft carbon rear spoiler

  2. For Sale: Invidia N1 catback exhaust and Apexi stainless steel exhaust under panel

I have for sale my old Invidia N1 catback exhaust, was on the car for around 2 years so I think it has done around 20k miles.  Fairly loud exhaust as straight-through mufflers.  It has the donut gasket connection, so will fit with stock front pipe.  Selling this as I wanted a larger bore exhaust when I went TD Turbo Stage 2 (and fancied single exit) - nothing wrong with the exhaust other than I wanted a change!

It was the titanium tipped exhaust, however this faded so I sprayed the tips black to give it a more aggressive look; high temperature exhaust paint on it.  I took it off the car in early September (to replace with my Greddy 3") and it has been sitting in my house since then.  Given it a polish to clean it up and re-sprayed the tips. since taking it off.  If not happy, someone could sand it down and re-spray fairly easily.   The weld on the name badge did break, and I have repaired this with epoxy so it won't do it again; completely out of sight under the car anyway.

Needs new gaskets (can get easily from Tuning Developments, ebay etc), will have the bolts included (full disclosure: one or two are slightly tough to do up due to surface rust, however they still work with a bit of 'elbow grease').

Apexi stainless steel exhaust under panel

Bought this from ft86speedfactory.com for around $350 inc shipping - originally designed for the Apexi N1 exhaust, I have modified slightly so that this fits the Invidia N1 without touching the exhaust.  Creates a smoother airflow by plugging the gap between the exhausts cans and the rear bumper, covering the large empty space and removing that parachute effect.  Does make rear end feel more planted after exhaust change.  See my build thread for pics.  Again I painted it black so it was near invisible. Includes all of the fittings.

    http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/apexi-stainless-steel-exhaust-under-panel-for-n1-1902.html#.Whs2pY6Uce0

Won't fit 'single muffler' style exhausts.  I cannot guarantee fitment on other exhausts.

Looking for £400 for exhaust & Apexi panel together.

    Open to offers.

Collect from Cheam (Surrey) or buyer pays for postage.

    Happy to answer any questions!

  3. where do the harness mount behind the seat?

Currently rear set belt points. Not comfortable with the angle they sit at as below recommended angle, so looking at options to change the angle they sit at (harness bar etc).

  4. does it drone at all on the motorway?

Had it on for a couple of days, it does drone a bit at around 2k rpm. Nothing that bothers me. Motorway speeds it drones a bit less as its higher up the Rev band.

Hopefully will drone less when sooted up, and remapped by Mike.

  5. It's been a while since an update.  Earlier in the year I took the car up to Mike at Tuning Developments for their Stage 1 Turbo Kit.  Car now feels much more like it should - the TRQ and HP is fed in smoothly and consistently across the rev range from around 3k rpm, and just keeps building until redline.  Plenty of gains above my full NA exhaust system!

Obviously not subtle when you open the bonnet, but you can barely see the intercooler until you're up close.  The screamer pipe perhaps not to all tastes, but personally I think sounds amazing.16729370_10101413341075564_6577111891278622621_n.jpg.78dd94deb62ec0ee3919e4cd374ae4be.jpg16729138_10101413341150414_8300986839233926522_n.jpg.518cb862898540556f900b617b7008d0.jpg

Since then I have managed to not spend much money on the car (crazy busy at work over the summer).

I have noticed in the last month or so that the clutch appears to be slipping slightly in 6th, quite possibly a mix of more power, the miles I drive (and probably poor clutch use...!).  My car is due for 50k service and MOT by end of September, therefore I am booked over the week of 23-28 September for this and a clutch change.   Since Mike has the car it would be rude to not get the Stage 2 upgrade (which includes the clutch!) I might see some of you up there on the 23/30 September.

When I was last up there, a thought that Mike/I had was that a larger diameter pipe could open up a few more HP than the <2.5 inch Invidia N1 catback (more me than Mike I expect).  Going for Stage 2 I thought a wider bore exhaust therefore needed as a birthday present to myself, so this beauty arrived in the post from the US in the last week...Greddy Revolution RS single exit.

The fabrication on this is just stunning - the welds are something else, I was really impressed.

Some pictures on the car.  And also including the blanking plate. Spoiler looks massive as a result of the angle. Honest.

Quieter at idle.  Bit louder when driving (its 3"), but it sounds...cleaner...being a single exit; I put it down to there not being a second exit.  Not got any videos yet, but may have time to arrange over the weekend.

57 minutes ago, Nemo said: I have the Invidia N1 - awesome sound, quite loud and can drone a bit on motorway (manageable though).  Will pass MOT if you keep stock header and front pipe.

Will this annoy my neighbours on cold start. I know the gt86 has a high Rev for cold start?

Its a 'deep' loud sound on cold start. If you ever change the headers with an N1 installed, definitely get the cold start mapped out as it becomes almost embarrassingly loud....

I'll have a dig around on my other computer  - changed phones in last 6 months, so had to transfer files.

I have some videos where I tried to find an exhaust rattle on my YouTube that are in car (might have been windows down?) and some in my work car park, but no drivebys, sorry.

Try youtubing these - they're very close to how mine sounded, but it had a bit less rasp.

  8. Hi all

Following my TD turbo install this year, I have a few items for sale.  Treat yourself on a bank holiday...? :)

Both items located in Cheam, Surrey - I work down in Gatwick so can arrange a handover near there as well.

    1) JDL UEL Manifold - ceramic coated

    https://jdlautodesign.net/shop/ft86-unequal-length-header/

Purchased from the states around 18 months ago done about 15k miles.  Had it black ceramic coated as well - keeps the pipe temps down, therefore lower engine bay temps.  Great subaru rumble sound due to style, when I had it tuned it by Mark at Abbey it removed a large amount of the torque dip (though not entirely) and gave good top end results (estimated 218-220bhp).  Pics below (orange in pictures is not rust, just leftover orange colour from the sealant I have removed) - currently new prices are around £750 + international posting (a lot!), I'm looking for £500 collected.

    2) JDL Utra Quiet Front Pipe

    https://jdlautodesign.net/shop/ft86-ultra-quiet-front-pipe/

Contains 200 CEL cat and resonator - helps to remove some rasp when having open headers.  Slight dent on pipe (think I touched a speed bump), doesn't affect performance. 200 CEL easily passed my last MOT.  Currently retails for c.£325 + international posting, looking for £225 collected.

Happy to answer questions.  Will also have Invidia N1 for sale at some point when I upgrade to 3" exhaust.
