  1. So I've only had my GT86 for a little over a week, and have done just over 500 miles. I'm curious as to whether I have an issue or if it is just a design "feature" that is the same on all ZN6s.
When changing gear and being a little quick to lift off the clutch pedal there is a feint clunk from the back of the car, like the car has bad diff mounts. Is this to be expected, and should I just order some Whiteline or similar upgraded bushes?
I might be wrong on the location, but it seems like when the diff is loaded up there is definite movement, even at just 4000rpm...

  2. I think a pearl white boot lid with spoiler would really set that cars looks off!!

I'll do you a straight swap and fit it for free!!

Haha, thanks for the offer but I'm not into 2-tone! :D

I am still considering the TOMs lights and selling these, but have other priorities now, like wheels!

  3. I guess the wheels ultimately depend on if you plan on doing any trackwork or maybe entering the TSS next year. I'll be interested to see what you go for. Any plans for a remap? They really help this car out imo.

And I also expect a R/C model of your car in the not too distant future :)

I do actually have a Scion FR-S body ready to be painted, but will probably paint it my usual colour and make it look cool rather than make it a replica!

I'd like to get to a drift day to get my car control dialed in - I haven't drifted for a few years other than maybe an hour over a couple of drift days in a friends JZX100 whilst I was in Japan in December.

I need to do some more research on remaps before I decide, and I certainly won't get one done until I have the exhaust sorted which might be some time...

  4. I thought I should start a build thread to log the progress of my car, this might be very slow and it's my daily driver so will never be too radical. This opening post will contain some duplicate photos etc from my introduction thread.

So this if my first ever new car, and I was very lucky in that I ordered on 26th June 2015 and collected the car on the 7th July 2015 so my wait was nowhere near as long as most it seems!

It's a MY2016 GT86 in red, and was the exact spec I wanted aside from parking sensors which may get added at a later date.

Anyhow it's all very familiar to everyone here I'm sure, but I picked it up with less than 10 miles on the clock and instantly hit traffic... which wasn't ideal.

Took it back to my business to show my business partner and interested customers. My business partners AE86 happened to be parked up so got some shots together.

I actually bought these Valenti rear lights before the car arrived because I'm really not into the OEM tail lights and knew I was going to have to change them ASAP when the car arrived!

My background is in motorsport/aftermarket part sales and although my business now is distributing RC Drift Cars, I haven't forgotten my roots so want to get some high quality, cool wheels and maybe coilovers as soon as my budget allows.

I fitted the lights on the 2nd day I had the car in the rain. Thankfully they're super quick and easy to fit so I didn't get too soaked!

A customer of mine ordered the TRD sound tube pack, and gave me this one since he was planning on using the red one. Will hold off fitting this until I've completed the 1000 mile run-in so I can compare it properly.

Since the weather was a little better today, I decided to lose the TOYOTA and GT86 badges from the back of the car. No idea who came up with the bright idea to have 3 chrome badges in such a small area... CLUTTER!

    Looks MUCH better IMHO.

I also got a photo of the rear lights illumined the other night...

I light them a lot, but think I might prefer the TOMs ones, so may end up changing at some point.

So my list of upgrades I plan on fitting

    • Wheels - undecided if I should go 17" and lightweight or 18" and better looking. I have a lot of experience selling wheels, but am very indecisive when choosing my own wheels!
    • Coilovers - probably HSD since that's what I used to sell and had an almost zero % warranty claim rate.
    • Exhaust - Still deciding if I'm going with my head or heart on this, but looking like the Tomei 60R is my cat back of choice - then will probably add an EL manifold later. I want a silly exhaust but am getting old so might not be able to live with it anymore :D
    • TRD spolier - I'm after a subtle lip spoiler and this seems to be the best option although the Seidoworks one looks interesting.
    • MAYBE a front splitter, but only if I end up running the car pretty low which right now isn't really an option due to a car park I have to get into on a regular basis that features a BRUTAL entry ramp!
    • Probably some Carbone Lorraine RC5+ brake pads, assuming they make some that fit. These are the best road pads I have used so far, with minimal dusting and awesome stopping power.

I guess it might be worth a mod moving this thread to projects? Got a feeling I have a lot of new parts arriving in the not too distant future for this :D

Currently choosing fancy wheels from Japan, but can't decide on basics like sizes so might be a while until I actually select them. I also need to sell my other cars to pay for them :D

  7. They can get very expensive, but they are super detailed and amazing quality. I have several chassis that are well over £1000 but you don't need that. It's like full size cars, people just enjoy adding bits and having the new stuff so the prices get high for the top level stuff but the RTRs that we sell (and are likely the best way to start the hobby) are £300 for everything aside from battery and charger (they include a body and a GT86 is one of the options!)

  8. Cool. I wondered if you worked at Status Error as that is up your way I think. Your place looks brilliant!

    Thanks!

Status Error is in Edinburgh, and we're in Northampton in the East Midlands :D We're good friends with Gianni at SE. I used to work at Driftworks and my business partner and I built and ran the RC drift track there for Phil and the guys whilst I was Sales Manager.

  9. Yeah, we're Radio Controlled Drift Car specialists - not sure what the rules are with links but you can check out our Facebook page here.

Here's a couple of photos of the current track layout and some action shots!

  10. So after a pretty short wait compared to some, I picked up my first new car - my red GT86.

Anyhow it's all very familiar to everyone here I'm sure, but I believe this is the "2016" model and I picked it up with less than 10 miles on the clock and instantly hit traffic... which wasn't ideal.

Took it for a gentle drive tonight, but due to some commitments I only got around 90 miles into my 1000 mile run-in!

Anyhow, I have some Valenti rear lights waiting to be fitted hopefully tomorrow if I find time and then I need to find some suitable wheels since I'm not a fan of the OEM ones at all.

  11. Got mine yesterday, thanks for the fast service. Was little surprised to see the invoice showing I have been charged £276.49 instead of the £260 (delivered) mentioned on page 1 - despite checking on the phone that the deal is still valid. Quality looks pretty good, just got to wait for my car to arrive to get them installed now!
