ZEP 8 Report post Posted June 14, 2015 My HKS SC V2 manual says: Use engine oil with viscosity greater than 40. I'm going to use Castrol Edge 10W60 (Toyota's Portugal OEM oil is 15W30 0r 10W40). Anyone with experience?
Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted June 14, 2015 Have you checked the oil discussion thread, lots of good information there.
iddrew 86 Report post Posted June 14, 2015 As @Mark-in-Stoke said the oil discussion thread has lots of useful info. I'm in Malta and after consulting lots of people (including @GT86Jay who has an HKS GT Supercharger V2) i decided to go for Motul 300v 5w30 for my HKS V2 SC build. I'll monitor oil pressure and temperatures and report back. Depends on how much you're going to be pushing your car i guess and temp you're going to reach. ZEP 8 Report post Posted June 17, 2015 I decided to go for Castrol Edge sport 0W40. Based on 0W20 Toyota recomendation for NA plus 5W30 used by Toyota-Portugal plus HKS viscosity upgrade. I'll report back. Thanks
GT86Jay 202 Report post Posted June 18, 2015 FYI - I'm only talking from experience with MY car when I said I had trouble with a thicker oil. I may have sensitive / sticky oil control valve. Using a thicker oil may well be perfectly fine for many! And a lot of people are using a thicker oil. I'm currently using a 0w30 and it's running perfectly, temps are good and pressure is stable at all revs / temps.
hashiriya 52 Report post Posted June 18, 2015 I Think a W40 will work well for you especially as it can get a bit warm in Portugal. I use a very similar weight in mine and have had no problems so far.
