Technical issues with a used turbo kit

Does anyone know the problems that might come with installing a used turbo kit? Assuming the turbo kit is in a good condition. I was going to look for a used turbo kit but I guess I have to figure out the technical issues first, then start looking into it.

Screamer pipe drive by track limits

Hello, I’m strongly considering going forced induction with a turbo, but just wondered if anyone has had any issues with the screamer pipe with drive by noise limits on track? I’ve seen some drivers kicked off of Bedford before (not gt86s) for drive by noise and don’t want to be one of them! Thanks
  5. Hi All, Just thought i'd share my experiences of the excellent Tuning Developments and their Stage 1 turbo kit. First of all about me. I've had my 86 since 2013 (it's a Peal White limited edition with the red cross hatched stitching on the leather for the interested) and been lightly modifying it for the last couple of years. So far i'm running, Valenti sequential tail lights, trd spoiler, beatsonic antenna, stop tech disks and pads front and rear, tuning developments brake cooling fins, ate super blue brake fluid, P3 multigauge, Scorpion cat back and decat with a miltek overpipe. So, naughtier but still well behaved. Normally driving wise my trips consist of pootles around town mostly, some hard A road driving and long motorway jaunts. I track it once or twice a year, usually at Brands or Silverstone as they are closest to me. I'll start by saying i loved the stock car, great balance, surprising nippy on track and quite rewarding to wring it's neck. Gripes? Well the god damn squealing stock brakes and needing to wring its neck to get it shifting. As i said earlier, i do a fair chunk of long motorway drives and that ability to shift lanes and blow past something that was always missing. Or was.... I missed the first TD black friday sale but caught it this time round. If they do it again, definitely jump on it. I went for stage 1 turbo with UEL headers for the bass and the wub wub wub, knowing i may drop a couple of ponies for the pleasure but gain a little low down torque. The guys at TD did an excellent job turning it around in a week with no dramas what so ever. The new car (because i can't really refer to it as the old one anymore) is a completely different animal. Soundwise, there's probably 3 distinct phases. It's quieter than it was at idle, startup and when running round on 0-25% throttle. My exhaust was probably a little on the loud side especially when pulling under load and that has just lost a few dB and hit a sweet spot now. 25-50% throttle there's a little turbo whoosh from under the bonnet and a little grumble from the exhaust but pretty tasteful, hitting that little boost is probably my favorite of the sounds. At full chat, there's a lovely spooling sound followed by a dump of pure power. It sounds awesome! Balance wise, I've not driven it on track yet but i have taken it down a few A roads. Word to the wise, get an oil cooler before going on track, mine runs a few degrees hotter now and it wasn't exactly a cold running car to start with. Bearing in mind that i'm still on the stock primacy's (damn tires are harder than rock) traction is surprisingly good. One can't stand on the power out of a corner anymore but that adds to the enjoyment in my book and suits my driving style. Hopefully this'll speed the death of my tires and I can legit throw on an upgrade. The power, my god, the power. That's why we are all here right? Well i'll probably split this into everyday and pressing on. For everyday driving it's the perfect solution. I'm sure you've all done it, lent on the accelerator, felt the revs and torque build to a crescendo but been a little disappointed that it never really came. Well, now that crescendo is there, the one after that, and the one after that is there too. It pulls... well...everywhere. Mine makes more power and torque pretty much everywhere on the band vs stock. After the upgrade peak torque was 230ish with peak HP at 277.7 (check out the dyno below) the stock car was probably putting out something in the 180s. What's more important is that the torque is pretty flat across the band and is massive so it just hammers home. Driving down the motorway now, 6th used to pull better at 90 than at 70 and required a bit of a run up at 70 too. Now you can leave it where it is in 6th, lean on 50% throttle and you've departed and left everything behind. Pushing on, the sheer power as it punches through the gears is unbelievable. After my first couple full throttle blasts i was left giggling at the steering wheel saying "jesus christ, yeah f***ing right" to myself. If it wasn't playing my bluetooth, i would have sworn they swapped the car. It's always hard to compare apples with apples though with just how much quicker it has got however I was lucky enough to be given a direct competitor to measure against. At a number of track days I've caught but struggled to pass Caymans, just too quick on the straights with reasonable brakes. Well i was served one with a willing driver on the way home. A Cayman S PDK (last generation) no less and thought here's a good benchmark. He looked at me, i looked at him, we both knew it was on. We did a couple of drags from 65 north...significantly north (kph or mph i couldn't say). I did mine purely in 6th just to see what she could do, the answer was to pull a gap and keep pulling a gap, higher in the rev range the gap stabilized but the initial gap was decent. We did this a few times, the result the same and then the Cayman S departed with a confused shake of the head and a look of bewilderment. Well there you have it, in short, just get one, it is simply incredible. If i had to describe it in one word, for me the delivery is just so progressive and smooth it would have to be "creamy." Downside, if there is one is that it now takes only Super. I know, i know i should have been doing this anyway and not just for track days but hey. Hope this helps guide some people, trust me you won't regret it!

  7. First of all, I know this has been discussed several times, however more so looking to see the outcomes of peoples cars in recent years with different kits, or the new versions of the kits? Long story short I want to supercharge the car to 280-300 bhp. Nothing more than this number as then you have to change a lot of components in the engine. I was pretty much set on the HKS supercharger then came across a few people in america talking about reliability issues. Seems to be it will only reach 10,000 miles and pop goes the supercharger. So looking for opinions of people who have either looked into it as well, or have actually had the car supercharged (Either by the HKS or any other manufacturer) in the more recent years. I've mentioned turbo as well just to see if people more so recommend this. Im not chasing top line BHP, nor do I want a sudden input of power at 4/5000rpm hence why I think the supercharger is a better option for the car. Just essentially looking for more power across the whole spectrum. Anyway, as I say, looking for opinions and peoples experiences with somehow getting more power?
  8. As some of you know, I'm looking at selling my wide bodied GT86. It's a highly modified wide bodied, turbo charged GT86. A real head turner, which has done it's rounds at many a car show, car magazines and has been transformed over the last 2 years into something very special. It is a 62 plate Toyota GT86, 35,000 miles with a full service history. The car was completely standard when I bought it over 3 years ago, and all the work that has been carried out, has been done my specialists in the field, with a lot of the receipts. The car has been turbo charged by Fensport, with a AVO stage 3 turbo kit, complete with uprated fuel pump, fuel injectors, 3" AVO exhaust system, oil cooler and P1 Boost gauge. Currently running at 323bhp, the power to weight ratio makes it a handful. The Rocket Bunny V1 style kit, was custom made for the build, and has been professionally fitted, completely sealed, and splash guards fitted. The golden anodized aluminium bolts, fitted with riv-nuts (the way they should be done) set off the colour theme, complementing the Work Meister M1 Alloy wheels, custom made, with a high negative offset. Since the engine has been modified with the AVO system, it has been serviced every 5000 miles, and only been run on Millers Oil and Shell V-Power fuel. The last service a few months ago, included uprated HKS Grade 10 Spark Plugs being fitted, and braided brake lines. The Airrex air system kit was installed, complete with management system, and wireless remote, this is a £5000 kit which is one of the best available, and hasn't done more than 600 miles since it was fitted. 11. Title pretty much says it all. In the market for a turbocharged GT86 or BRZ. Let me know
  12. 2.5 years ago i bought a 62 plate GT86 with in Silver 50k on the clock. I wanted a change and to be a bit different, plus i live in a city centre (Norwich) so i went for an Auto. Usually I'd avoid AT on most cars but I heard this box was actually pretty good with intelligent down shifting and whatnot. I paid 15k in the end (only 6k over original car budget). The car was advertised much cheaper than all the others at the time due to mileage, so the perfect culprit for a project build. The car also had a good service record (RRG Macclesfield & Bolton) and no initial issues besides an exhaust rattle that was fixed at 10k miles. As this would be my first build i did a lot of reading up on the car and various mods, and spent a good amount of time with it stock so that i could get to know the vehicle as a daily, and decide whether i was happy with my decision before i put any money into it! Flash forward one year and i had my first full service to take care of. Thanks to lurking on these forums and reading up about their race car, i then decided to pay the guys at Fensport a visit, only an hour down the road so would be rude not to . I had the service done with no issues, turns out this was the first time they had done a 60k service, so i was delighted to be the guinea pig! Everything went without a hitch. All the guys are super friendly and enthusiastic. First impressions is this is how a business should be run! I discussed with them my plan for NA tuning + FD mod. Also opted for the HKS panel filter and HKS spark plugs for the service. All good stuff! The plan now was as follows: 4.67 FD, manifold, remap and license. - FD for torque/improved 0-60 - Remap + HKS EL catless manifold to address the torque dip - Suspension to improve stability and handling This is the arguably the best bang-for-buck option and should be the go-to for anybody who wants a relatively low cost transformation. The next step was going to be new wheels, rubber and suspension. Happy with the service and eager to do more, we booked in the above for a couple months time, but unfortunately i had some personal issues pop up and we had to cancel . Turns out i would not get around to doing anything with the car until 2017! February: During February i decide to start looking around again for wheels as i can't stand the OEM any longer, that and I'd need wider rubber for more power in future anyway. Granted Silver is not a popular car color choice but it actually has potential to look really clean if you pair it with the right wheels & mods. This is by no means an easy task, anything glossy outside of black clashes in my opinion and most colors/finishes just don't sit right. Black is also just a little too dark in contrast to the silver imo and looks better on a black or grey car. After plenty of poking around i realize that I'm pretty much limited to Matte Gray, Gunmetal could in theory be an alternative option but can look cheap and tacky on some wheels in my opinion (Rota). I also saw a some forgestar in a dark midnight blue that looked really mean with a silver BRZ, so that color might be an option some day if i get bored. After a fair few restless nights browsing wheels and fitments i stumble across this on the usa forums: Gram Lights 57C6 18x9.5 +40 'Matte Graphite' Just what i was looking for. Looks like he decision has been made. However, i contacted the UK distributor only to find that these have been discontinued! I then spend a good couple weeks (!) poking around and come across a small lesser-known company in the USA and look what they have: Vordoven Forme 6 18x95 +38! There is a god! A very cruel one who will later sting me roughly £500 on shipping and fees . Although i decided it was worth it when i stumbled across a thread where a guy tried out four different made in usa 'replica' wheels over the course of a year and voted these to be the best by a long shot and turns out the weight isn't far off the Rays either, practically the same in fact. Also no cheap Taiwanese jobby here so i was sold. March: Wheels & Yokohama Advan Sport V105 245/35 square setup are ready to go on. Luckily I managed to take this all to the fitting place in one trip! As you can see below four new tyres and wheels of this size will only just fit in the car. TA-DA! All balanced and fitted by the guys at STS Tyre pros in Norwich, doesn't it look fresh. I can confirm that this size and offset will only just fit without rubbing on stock suspension, if it wasn't for the mild tyre stretch the front would most definitely rub against the spring. Also worth noting that the wheel caps actually match the color of the body paint too which is a nice touch. April: Suspension time.. So i did a lot of research here- I wanted a nicely balanced & silent coilover setup for fast road & track at a reasonable price. I also wanted a mono-tube damper setup rather than a twin tube, plenty of details online between the pros and cons for both types. The Tein Flex A was my second choice as it was a twin tube. I ended up opting for a set of MeisterR ZetaCRD+ mono-tube dampers and an Eibach rear LCA kit. If you want to go a little more track-focused then heavy duty anti-roll bars would compliment this setup very well, and i will be doing so in good time. So with these coilovers the spring rate is a bit more sensible than that of other popular solutions. With front at 5kg/mm, rear 4kg/mm These are designed to be a good fast road setup with enough damping adjustment for occasional track day use. Front top mount is spherical bearing with camber adjustments. The rear top mount is rubber insulated press steel to reduce possible road noise. These are 32 stage damping adjustable mono-tube dampers (compression & rebound combined). The spring rates of the ZetaCRD+ come out at 5/4 is because of the vehicle dynamic calculation that they do. On the GT86, when you are on the low end of spring rates for fast road, a 5/5 setup is a bit too close between the front and the rear so you could hit a harmonic frequency. The choice then is either 5/4, or 6/5. So they opted for the 5/4 in the end because it suits the requirements of a balanced fast road & track car better. Pictures of them fitted on the car below, 5mm pre-load at the rear and id say 35-40mm drop all round, i would not go lower as i've already had a few scrapes on speed bumps . Camber at approx -1.5 all round definitely gives the desired aesthetic (yes i do need SS lines). : It has totally transformed the ride! Tight, responsive, nimble and composed through the twisties. Feels like a totally different car in many respects now, the grip is insane on NA but doesn't feel bogged down at all once aligned correctly. For those worried about running a desired 9.5J aesthetic due to weight, just do it. I read a really informative article where different sizes and weights were tested and there was literally a couple tenths of a second difference on a track at most, and i know that most of you wont be building a fully stripped out race car ;). I'm running damping at 18 clicks from soft front and rear, 16 was a little too soft. Even though it is stiffer and lower I find the ride to be just as comfortable as stock in my opinion. Everything that I was told was correct, these are the coilovers to go for if you want to upgrade for occasional track without sacrificing too much comfort on the road. Thoroughly impressed. If you have any further questions be sure to hit up Jerrick at MeisterR, he knows his stuff. Coming Soon: FI and more!
  13. I am selling AVO stage 3 turbo which came of my car. It was installed by FENSPORT in December 2015. I have done about 20k miles. The item is located in Belfast and condition is as you can see on attached photos. It was working fine before it was removed from the engine. The sale includes turbo, forge blow off valve and breather system as well as all the piping. I would assume that all washers and screws are included however I can't guarantee that as I didn't remove it by myself however workshop assured me that they put everything in the box. Item is localised in Belfast and can be picked up or we can discuss the delivered option for an extra cost. Price 2000 pounds + delivery cost. Cost of new items was about 5k so I think that is reasonable price. There is no guarantee and no returns included as this is used item. This item require engine remap which is not included in sale as well as ecutec license to allow upload of the remap otherwise it doesn't require any other modifications to be fitted. I would prefer bank transfer or cash on pickup. I can also sell AVO 3" overpipe and frontpipe for 350 pounds together with the turbo. You can see it also on the pictures. If you have any questions please send me PM and I try to answer asap.

  15. Hey Everyone, I've finally got around to doing some decent modifications to my GT86 and thought I'd share some pictures with you wonderful people, and possibly have some feedback on your thoughts. First Mod was to change the exhaust system, I went for a custom build as there is a guy local to me who is A*, I had the exhaust fitted a few weeks ago and it sounds fantastic, second CAT delete. I'm having a custom manifold being made and fitted tomorrow / Friday ready for the weekend so will try and get some more pictures and videos up on here with the finished product. Only problem is I'm loosing the primary CAT, but he is modifying the system to allow me to bolt the CAT on (when necessary). This should release a few more BHP!! The exhaust tips are 5" wide and fill the space lovely, some say too big but I guess its personal preference. IMG_3473.MOV My only fear is once the manifold is put on, how much louder will it get. This weekend I've bought some coilovers, ST XTA Coilovers with adjustable top mounts. And some Gold 18" Rota Grids (8.5" Front 9.5" Rear), its been dropped about 50mm all around. I may need to raise it slightly as It takes me about 20 mins to park on my drive hmmmmm. I'm now looking at getting the shark fin done, TRD spoiler and a few other bits and bobs. Any other recommendations? Btw this is my first proper post so I hope I'm doing it right and all the pictures work lol.
  16. Hi all, Another product we've been working on for a little while now. A breather system for the FA20. This is a dual system and covers both the crankcase breather and the rocker cover breather systems in one unit. Each side has its own drain plug and both side are also internally baffled. It also acts as a battery clamp/tie down The prototype is currently on our 86 and has been for a couple of months now. The finished article will look tidier than the prototype and the battery tie down with be CNC cut rather than by hand currently. Ideal for supercharged or turbo cars whereby the stock breather system can become inadequate and stops oil mist being fed into the air intake and consumed by the engine. Pricing TBC and more information will follow as and when we have it Thanks Mike

Hello, new gt86 member from spain

Hello all, A new member saying hello with a white gt86. Live in spain and Belgium. Love our car and even more when drifting ;-) Especially interested in turbo or supercharger for the gt86. At the moment I have the complete Milltek exhaust (both resonated as non resonated) and deleted the noise generator. Also bought the injen ses exhaust from fensport, but that was too loud and had a lot of drone. Look forward to learning some new things from our car. Greets, Nickson
