  1. Toyota GT86. Supercharged by Abbey Motorsport. 285bhp - £15,450 Silver with half leather/heated Alcantara seats and Nav. The car has been upgraded and tuned by Abbey Motorsport, well respected experts in upgrading Japanese performance cars. It has a number of performance modifications but looks almost standard. Modifications: Abbey motorsport are well respected experts in this area of tuning. Evo Magazine had a very positive review of one of their supercharged GT86 cars. That car was running a Sprintex Supercharger but Abbey moved on to recommending the Harrop supercharger as a superior product. (Harrop superchargers are used by Lotus in cars such as the Exige and Emira). Additional detail on modifications: Harrop Supercharger (£6k - Eaton TVS 1320), intercooler and stage 2 clutch fitted by Abbey Motorsport in 2016 - 238hp at the wheels which translates to around 285bhp engine power. (Stock GT86 is around 160 wheel hp on Abbey's Dyno) AP racing front big front brake kit (£2.2K) - fitted 2016. Fits under standard wheels. HKS oil cooler (£800) - fitted by Abbey 2017. This sits behind the drivers side front fog light opening. Cat-less manifold and overpipe by CGR fitted 2020. Standard secondary cat is still in place, and it has always passed the MOT emissions test without any issues. Subaru STi Group N (hard rubber) performance engine and transmission mounts fitted 2020. - better control, but no discernible additional NVH. Cosworth sump baffle plate fitted 2020. This car has had significant money spent on performance upgrades. The standard car is well reviewed but lacks power and torque. These upgrades greatly improve engine response and performance. The standard car needs lots of revs to make any progress; this comes alive far lower down the rev range. The other modifications work well with and support the power increase. The modifications costs total in excess of £12,000 (excluding general maintenance and servicing costs). There is comprehensive history and documentation. I am happy to answer any queries. Maintenance: First Registered 22 September 2012 and currently on 63,400 miles. Last service and MOT in July at 61,626 miles. Also serviced at 10,992, 20,823, 35,974, 40,937, 49,995, 56,106 and 59,670 miles. The valve spring recall was undertaken by RRG Toyota in Macclesfield (well respected Toyota main dealer who are very experienced in modified cars and who Toyota selected as preferred garage to undertake the recall work on modified cars). While in for the recall I also had RRG undertake the 60,000 mile major service, (items in addition to a standard service included spark plugs, diff oil change, brake fluid change, and pollen filter). New discs and pads (AP J hooks and Ferodo DS2500 front / EBC rear discs and pads) fitted at the last service, so are almost as new. Tyres are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and have plenty of life left. The air conditioning condenser was replaced in 2020 and blows nice and cold. The bad bits: This car is below average mileage and in good condition for its age, but there are some stone chips to the front bumper/bonnet and isolated minor marks to bumpers. There is a stone chip to the bottom corner of the windscreen. This has been repaired and is outside of the wiper swept area. Ownership history: The car has three former keepers. The second owner undertook the initial modifications (supercharger, Intercooler, Oil Cooler, upgraded clutch and AP brakes) before part exchanging it for a Lotus Exige in 2018 at Bell and Colvill (Lotus, Subaru, McLaren and Morgan dealer). The third owner purchased it from Bell and Colvill and had the car for less than a year, before I purchased it in January 2019. The car will come with two keys. This is one of several cars that I currently own. I have enjoyed using it but with young children and other cars, it is not getting as much use as I would like and so I am now looking to sell. Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Lots of photos on PistonHeads Ad. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/15920799
  2. Thanks for adding the price Will. Sorry, must have missed that important item!
  3. Thanks. I'm not precious about only having Toyota dealers work on the car, it was more that I thought it could be convenient and cost effective. From some of the photos I've seen on here, I would have thought it would be the ideal opportunity to do some extra items while 'working in the area'. I would be happy to pay a representative cost for any extra labour, but don't want to be charged for more labour than necessary. The below photo of a recall in progress seems to show manifold off and sump easily accessible... Edited to add, it appears from the second photo below that the clutch actually has to come off to mount the engine on the work stand?
  4. My car is booked in for the recall to be done next week. Just a couple of questions/requests for thoughts please. My understanding is that many people have had their clutch inspected/replaced while having the recall done. I purchased my car second-hand, but understand that an Xtreme organic clutch was installed around 4 years/20k miles ago. I don't therefore anticipate it should have significant wear but thought it would be good if it could be checked/the clutch release bearing inspected and greased as necessary. Dealer has advised that they would not inspect the clutch and would just check via road test. This seems at odds with others experience? I appreciate that they may not actually remove the clutch as part of the recall but it will be coming out with the engine and easily accessible. I asked if they could quote for doing some additional work which they seemed happy to do. I will be doing the other 60k mile service items but the costs quoted for a couple of other items seemed very high to me, bearing in mind the easy access. Are the exhaust manifolds removed as part of the recall? Cost quoted to fit aftermarket manifold and overpipe (these parts and gaskets supplied by me) - 4 hours labour - £528. Cost quoted to fit Cosworth baffle plate into sump - 2 hours - £264. I have told them not to bother with these items as the cost seemed high. Just after some thoughts. Please set me straight if I am underestimating the work involved. If I am correct in thinking these should be fairly straightforward though, I wonder whether it may be worth asking the dealer whether they could double check their figures/that they haven't quoted on the basis of stand alone jobs!

I have a Harrop supercharger on my car but currently running standard exhaust (including manifold). I managed to purchase a used CGR EL manifold and TD super resonated system, so these will be going on, with a remap by Abbey. I'm not sure how the CGR compares to Rogue/Ace but the manifold does look good quality and seems very light. I would probably have gone with Rogue had I not happened upon the CGR manifold. What are the thoughts on engine bay heat build up and ceramic coating? I know that some have had issues with coil packs/wiring harness failure, suspected due to heat. Is the TD style manifold that comes up in front of the engine worse for heat/is it something to worry about? Zircotec sounds to the best quality coating, but at some cost. https://www.cgrautomotive.co.uk/product-page/toyota-gt86-subaru-brz-exhaust-manifold-supercharged
  6. I had my car booked in with RRG Macclesfield for the valve spring recall in July and phoned them today to check that we were still on for this. They told me that Toyota had cancelled all GT86 recalls and that it was likely to be several months before any further update. RRG only returned to work this week but will be contacting those affected soon. Does anyone know anything more on this? Has anyone else got their car booked in/had it cancelled? I got the impression that the delay was due to the technical matter of undertaking the work (perhaps a change in procedures) rather than any parts supply issue.

    Oil starvation on track

What are the thoughts on potential issues with oil starvation on track? I've searched the forum topics and although I can see that there was some discussion regarding this on the other forum a few years back I can't find anything recent or a conclusion. When is this likely to become an issue and what is the best way of preventing it? My GT86 has a Harrop supercharger, HKS oil cooler and is running Michelin PS4 tyres. I do the odd track day but will not be putting on slicks etc. If this is an issue, the main options seem to be a baffle in the sump or an Accusump. I believe that Fensport run an Accusump on the GT86 that they have run in the Japanese Sprint series. Not sure this installation would fit with the Harrop kit in any case? Main sump baffle option seems to be Cosworth, as far as I can see? Coming from a Caterham where the recommendation was that for any track use an 'Apollo' anti cavitation tank was recommended, with a dry sump advised for more extreme usage, I'm keen to understand whether some preventative measures would be worthwhile. Keen to hear from anyone who runs either a sump baffle, Accusump or anyone with a view on whether oil starvation is something to be concerned about. @Fensport @Mark@Abbey M/S What are your thoughts on this?

Do Android head units such as these allow you to run the Torque app and show gauge dials on the stereo screen (either by installing the app directly onto the head unit, or mirroring from your phone)?

Interesting, thanks. Do you have a sump baffle as well, or just the Accusump?

    Oil starvation on track

Many thanks @Mark@Abbey M/S So with one of your Harrop supercharger installations would you be more inclined to go with a Cosworth baffle, an Accusump, or something else? What would the approximate costs be to install these different options?

Nice. The car featured in the Carthrottle article with the Harrop installation was done by Abbey Motorsport and is now mine 😎 Agreed, the PS4 do work well. My car is still on the standard 17x7 wheels and runs 215 PS4 tyres. I hope that the noise issue you are experiencing gets resolved ok.
  18. Sorry to hear about this issue. Hope something can be done to resolve it without excessive cost to you. Is your car modified?
  19. Very interesting, thanks PeterH. Has anyone else been told this/had their modified car transported from their local dealer up to Macclesfield?
  20. I have owned my 62 reg GT86 for a year now but have had no contact from Toyota. The online recall checker confirms that it is subject to the recall. Are Toyota still in the process of sending out letters? Should I make contact directly? Do we have any idea what proportion of the affected cars have been done yet/how long they will be doing them for? My car has a Harrop supercharger which may complicate matters. Might they direct me to a garage such as RRG Macclesfield who may have more experience dealing with modified cars? I would be happy to travel if this were a good option. If you have a car with supercharger/turbo, who has done the recall on your car/did they seem to know what they were doing? Are you happy with the result?

    Cosworth Supercharged GT86

I purchased my car with most of the mods already done. Details as it stands: Harrop Supercharger/Intercooler. HKS Oil Cooler AP front brakes. Stoptech disks/pads on the rear. Extreme Organic Clutch Michelin PS4 tyres Valenti Rear lights Intec high level brake light Perrin stainless gear knob. Previous build thread from the chap who formerly owned the car here. https://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/forums/topic/4903-benjamin-franklyns-86/ I’ve had the car a year now and should do my own build thread outlining further work planned. The car currently looks standard (unless you spot the AP brakes) and I do quite like that aspect. Current thoughts on possible further modifications are: CGR manifold. I think I would get this ceramic coated by Zircotec to minimise additional heat into the engine bay. Thoughts on this? Probably leave the standard second cat in place. I may consider a cat back exhaust at some stage but would not want anything too loud /with drone. Possibly a sump baffle to reduce risk of oil starvation. Possible suspension upgrades at some stage as this is currently stock. I would want to retain a compliant ride though. STI engine/gearbox mounts to tighten things up slightly. If I were to upgrade the wheels I would probably go for some OZ Alleggeritas. With regard to pulley size/limits of engine internals, I am no expert either, but my understanding was that going above 280bhp would risk the rods. My car was modified by Abbey Motorsport and I will take advice from Mark there before doing anything further. If I install a new manifold I suspect another mapping session may be beneficial and I would go to Abbey for this to be done. I’ve not had any contact yet from Toyota yet regarding the valve spring recall – is there any rush to get this done? A couple of links with some of the items that I have read on maximum BHP/standard rods, etc. Can you share what you have read on the fuelling being marginal please? https://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/forums/topic/7273-general-fi-questions-rod-strength-and-supercharger-whine/ http://www.gt86ownersclub.co.uk/forum/25-engine-drivetrain/11554-fa20-carnage-blown-engine-thread.html

    Cosworth Supercharged GT86

Sounds good. Do you have any plans for upgrading engine internals? My understanding was that power and torque were limited by these and that the standard fueling components were ok up to this level? Also, you mentioned a sump plate. Is this a baffle/which one did you go for?
