So fitted the VLAND bumper light to complete the VLANDs all around.

Straightforward install, took around an hour and a half. The hardest bit was getting off the 2 rusted 10mm bolts holding it on.

Apart from that, just unplugged and removed stock one then replaced with the new one.

The wiring is super super easy, plug and play. There's an additional harness that plugs into the tail lights and connects the extra wire to the bumper light for the brake light to work.

Job done. Super easy install. Very happy to complete the look and remove that chromey bumper light.
The reason I went for the VLANDs and not the Valenti ones with a V bar is just because these are way less common from what I've seen (they seem to be the only choice) and way cheaper. Plus I think they compliment the tail lights well and are just different.
Pictures are a bit crap because the sun was directly on the car, will try and get some decent pics in the next day or so after I install the sunstrip 😊😊

So, VLAND headlight installed today. Took way longer than I thought, around 4 hours but was fun.
Initially took off the bumper which was the easiest by far, was expecting it to be a pain.
Taking off the brackets holding the headlight was pretty easy as well.  Side by side comparison shows how chromey the stock primo lights are.
The wiring was the most challenging for me, just because I have zero experience with splicing and electrical stuff. I'm a mechanical engineer not electrical 😂
i promise I will tidy the wiring up one day
after that, straightforward to reinstall the bumper. In my opinion, they transform the front end of the car and makes it look so much better. Would be happy to hear some opinions on them!

P.s. thanks dad for helping me tidy up the cables 😂

    Afternoon all!
I registered an account a while ago but due to studies, work and this pandemic, have only just found the time to make a welcome post! From what I've read so far, this place has a wealth of information and lots of like minded people so I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
I purchased my orange GT86 back in September, so still fairly new to these wonderful machines. I've elected to leave it as standard for now, but who knows how long that will last, especially with Tuning Developments' NA kit tempting me. My immediate plans for the car are to rectify the stonechips on the front lip and also find a non-astronomical insurance policy. Being a younger driver in a relatively powerful car meant my renewal quote nearly made me faint!
That's me, hope to know some great people on here and to learn a bit too!

To be honest I’m not 100% sure on it, I believe it’s part of the DAMD black edition aero kit that was originally installed by JRM, it’s a one piece fibreglass part that covers the entire boot lid.

With the engine torn down it was time to tackle the mountain of RTV that was on everything in sight. A combination of the three below with various types of scrapers and brushes was somewhat successful, with enough patients it would eventually take most of the RTV off a surface, and the remainder would come off with a pressure washer but it wasn’t giving the super clean finish I was after.

The other issue was the casting on the engine block and front cover are very rough from the factory and suffer badly with oxidation and no amount of chemicals and pressure washing at close quarters was going to leave them looking nice

So after losing the will to live, and valuing my hands and lungs I decided to send the parts off to a local guy who does Vapour blasting.

A friend had used him and he was highly recommended. As it turned out he was an absolute gent and a car nut, with a lovely 911 and BMW 2002 out the back of the workshop. I have to say his attention to detail was only what you could get from a proper car guy too, he was extremely careful to protect all the bearing journals and plug all the oil galleries.

Nevertheless I fully de-greased, and power washing all the parts again for good measure to ensure these is no small particles anywhere before they even go for machining where they'll get cleaned a few times again.

But I think the results speak for themselves, you can still see how rough the castings are, and nothing short of polishing them would remove that but they look better than factory fresh IMHO.

While at it he also de-carbonised the cylinder bowls, and each of the valves. the heads themselves will get skimmed so mating surface will be cleaned up when machined.

Day 8:  Most of the parts from Subaru are here
Had a call to say most of my parts arrived at Subaru.  Only bits missing are 3  brackets and the major part the slam panel on its way direct from Japan, due in next Saturday.  Hopefully everyone remains safe and the dealership/delivery company etc are still working next weekend.  Its luck of the draw at the moment with everything going on.  I have held off ordering anymore bits now until the country gets back to normal.

Also received the bits for the headunit this morning, so that can go in this weekend, regardless of the above bits:

Yeah, I am glad I went to the extra expense of getting a facelift over a used pre one.  It was good to get it out the box and have a proper look at it in the flesh as its been a while since I've seen facelift.

Hopefully collecting a full stock airbox setup and washer fluid bottle later today which are the last pieces of the puzzle I am aware of currently.

Facelift bumper does look really cool like that, I like how it highlights all the extra creases compared to a pre-17 bumper.

Having bought a front wing myself, the boxes are huge with plenty of space around the wing. Not surprising when you realise how flimsy the things are... as I only had my 86, I had to leave the box behind at the dealer

Merry Christmas to me! Just received my wheels and I couldn't be happier with them! They're a set of Work Meister M1 in 18x9.5 on the front and 18x11 on the rear.   Struggling to bring myself to put them away in the boxes for now but I haven't really got much else to say about them, I think the pictures speak for themselves really!

So after what's felt like a lifetime of Searching i've finally managed to find a space to rent to make in to a decent little workshop to work on the car!   Luckily it's really local to me as well, about 5 minutes up the road. It's not much at the moment but it was previously a donkey shed so has had a brand new concrete floor done and will soon have a new door install (as you can see it, greatly needs it!) Once it's nice and secure i'll be able to move all my more expensive bits and the car, set up my nice new set of Quickjack and get cracking for an update bonanza! I've got a whole week off work planned just to crack on with the car and i've been really looking forward to it. I'll probably also start uploading some bits to youtube as well as updating my project threads so keep your eyes peeled for some terribly produced jumbled up videos loosely resembling car content!

This week I fitted Vland V2 tail lights to my Subaru BRZ. They are 2017 facelift style lights with the added bonus of sequential indicators. It was super easy and I made a how to video. The before and after difference is amazing, it really refreshes that back end.  This is the updated video including torque settings for the bolts and ensuring you do a leak test once fitted.

Thanks , yes this will be a keeper.  To be very open about this build, as it helps others who want to do a similar thing, my aim is to have a road legal working BRZ with a facelift front end for a budget of £7000 all in including the purchase of the car.  The car itself was £4200 and an additional £160 to get it transported to me.  Currently I have zero labour costs as 75% of the work I can do myself, the only labour I will incur is the cost of welding the slam panel in and a check that the front end is straight.  I have about 95% of the parts I need already on order or purchased used.  I know there are going to be bits missing when I start to rebuild it but theres space remaining in the budget for that.
This will then give me a cheap stock car to then go onto modify in the future.   The cheapest BRZ on ebay/autotrader is £12,995 so for me its a much cheaper way (and more fun for me) of getting into a BRZ and I certainly wouldn't get near a facelift for that money.
The only thing this does not take into account is paint, I could have waited and got second hand parts in the same colour as the car and within the budget, therefore I wouldn't incur any paint costs however my plan has always been to go for a none factory colour therefore is a separate cost.  Even with the total paint costs and a number of mods I have already purchased out of the 7k budget, such as lip kit, rear lights, headunit etc I will be no-where near £12,995 cheapest BRZ.

Good luck James. Following your thread carefully. Some initial thoughts- Vland tail lights are great, I have them but am not so sure of the Head. American cousins advise that the light quality and brightness is insufficient for road use. Have a rethink about them.

Toyota parts are cheaper due to higher volumes and they import straight from Subaru Japan to Toyota UK while Subaru import from Japan to Subaru Netherlands and then to International Motors UK, the Subaru Franchise here. Margins and transport costs add up.

Where do you plan to get a respray and how much does it generally cost?

I then set about stripping the front end removing the damaged metal such as wings, bonnet and parts of the slam panel.  Basically anything damaged that wasnt welded in has now been removed.  This is how I left it at the end of day 1:

Next steps are to call Subaru and Toyota tomorrow to order up all the parts needs for the front bumper as well as two wings, wing brackets and slam panel.  I will share the part lists and prices as and when I get them for anyone thinking of doing the same.  Most parts are cheaper from Toyota I have found, however the bumper is a Subaru only item so I need to go to them for that.  Its crazy how many individual parts there are on the bumper alone.
There are plenty more how to video coming up as I modify my BRZ, for additional updates please follow my youtube channel and instagram page:
