I wonder whether putting it into the 95 RON map would give it some extra headroom on emissions? Mine had its first MOT this year and was very close to the limit, I wouldn't have the first idea how to find a friendly tester.

The difference in sound will be due to the change in throttle response going to the low RON map. Mine does this, but the car just feels broken in  the 95 RON map mode, so  I never use it.

Yeah true scbrz,  My set-up is maps 1-3 for V-power with different toys on each map and map 4 is pretty much for any old fuel if vpower isn't available etc, was just curious really if anyone had noticed characteristics similar to what I mentioned when trying their map for any fuel 95 etc, map 1 in your case, the reduction in noise on mine is what got me curious.

If you search the ecutek website. I think is the one that is also called valet mode. I am wondering which one to set for dealership service ans MOT. Will ask Mike next year as had it done a week after both 😊

    Hi all,
I was fiddling around with my maps the other day on the commute home, playing with the features as generally I stick on Map 1 - performance only. The only map I'd never tried before was Map 4 for any olde fuel so decided to give it a bash and see how different the performance felt. I was actually pleasantly surprised, the car didn't seem to have that feeling  of urgency like it normally does, guessing maybe throttle response is lower, however it was still very smooth and pulled well but the biggest plus was it was generally alot quiter and i'd say more "social" for nipping about town or pulling into the neighbourhood etc (cobra uel and resonated exhaust fitted).
Just wondered if anyone had found the same?

No worries, with it being one of the less common choices hopefully it saves someone the same hassle if they pick the cobra. Yes bud, mean the engine undertray.

Just a heads up to anyone else considering the cobra. It badly rubs on the shield in quite a large spot.  Now at Toyota having brought it in due to the rattles that started to appear a couple days ago, tech just took me through and showed me. They're now attempting to mod the shield as well as my bank balance. Make sure if you get this fitted you or the garage mod the shield. 😪

GT1986 reacted to Church in Sound generator, worth removing?
Gains deleting soundtube: quieter cabin, including less road noise passed inside; some dislike "artificialness" of noise it produces; very slight weight gain and cleaner underbonnet space; no (bad) impact on performance (unlike deletion of resonators on intake too).
Cons: i prefer to have that extra noise. When tried to plug it off for test sake, even if it was just subjective feel, but car (with stock exhaust) felt more dull and lifeless, slower (even if just by placebo, as performance by dyno tests is same), so i ended up even going opposite way, installed trd soundtube changer (it costs cheap. In case if i want revert car 100% back to stock, decided to get trd's instead of gutting insides of stock angled plastic piece connecting soundtube to cabin) that made soundtube effect even louder; while some may dislike that soundtube "artificial" intake noise, with stock exhaust it's better then nothing, and much much cheaper then aftermarket exhaust; also unlike aftermarket exhaust, car still stays quiet from outside, it's inside cabin noise that is louder, good for keeping good relationships with neighbors yet hear that extra oumph when flooring :).
I'd say - worth deleting/plugging off if one has aftermarket catback of better tone and louder, but with 100% stock exhaust imho better leave it.
Which is best to you yourself can be easily found out. Just reuse cig-lighter plug cap from glovebox for plugging it off and decide for yourself after some driving, if you want it on or not. No money spent, easy/simply/quickly done, easy to revert. Also can be done temporary, eg. for less tiredness in long trips on autobahns for hours, even while keeping not plugged for generic daily driving. If one prefers by subjective feel during test how car/engine sounds with it plugged off in test drive, then one can go step further and remove soundtube alltogether (as mentioned above, for very slight weight gain and more & cleaner space under bonnet).

Blanking it off was the best thing I've done to the car yet! Will eventually get an intake hose

I got rid of mine when installing a new intake. The intake makes some noise too, so blanking the plug didn't make a lot of difference. I'm not sure how different it is on a stock intake.

    Hello,
I've not removed mine but have been in one that has had it removed and I could certainly tell the difference. I plugged mine up for now, need to get round to buying the hose that deletes it before I remove it though.

I will do when I get in on a dyno. It was all done at fensport on the open road so wasn't put on a dyno unfortunately. I have a cobra resonated exhaust so made sense for me to go for the cobra UEL.

I might be interested; depending on price (I'm meant to be saving for a house). I'm always on the lookout for decent roads; the roads where I live are filled with numerous potholes, traffics lights and many many BMW's, Audi's etc.

I think i'll try changing to Map 1 for a few days (performance only) and see if it still does the same without the other features full throttle shift etc being active.
