boost isnt the issue it is cylinder presure that causes damage. peak cylinder pressure is at max torque , torque versus rpm is the issue that causes rod damage

The issue is the rods , people have lost motors at a lot less than 300bhp so as a tuner you have to look/tune on the safe side , The rods are powder forged and this adds a element of risk but the rods are the same as the FA-20 turbo motor in the late Imprezza so even Subaru are working these rods a little.

I thought they had a dynapck like we do. These dyno read at the hubs and flywheel power ss estimated

    EDITTED they have a dynomite.

    Why am I shady?

so with a little work I can work out who you are?

The kit was updated after the issues that I said about above , with a little time on Google your see the HKS kit part number has changed. We have sold a fair few of the later kits ( early kits that failed while in warranty where replaced with the Up-dated kit)
Just remembered I had to chase you for my loaner Ecutek kit took you over a month of chasing for it to be returned?
    Did you sell the car?

Yes they have smaller losses but the kit doesn't fit as nice/look a snice in our eyes that why we use the Harrop kit, regards R&D can you enlighten me please what Cosworth have done over and above what Harrop had done please? I presume you referring to the engine work they did in regards engine loading.
, exactly them same as Harrop did when they developed the kit , they have had a GT86 Development car for a long time.

There was an issue with the earlier Kits that have been sorted , I being a HKS dealer and a well known tuner wouldn't be selling something that isn't
    good

no other damage other than the broken spring.

The said 2014 car has the original valve springs fitted,  it seems it was just a batch of springs made to the same part number that was to fault and this was fitted to 2012/2013 cars,.
Toyota have now superseded the valve spring part number for the earlier cars to a later part number that is used on re-call work.
I haven't had a reply  to my question from my Parts supply if the original part number for 2012/2013 cars is the same as this 2014 car but I am expecting it is.
Not all cars have had this valve spring issue but the 2014 is the 1st car I had actually seen a broken valve spring for myself. Car would misfire at idle , compressions all good, valve clearances all good but the valve with the broken spring felt soft due to 1 coil be broken at the top of the valve spring

Mike has explained above but to use an analogy , when your house walls are being skimmed, you can use heaters for it to dry out faster (but its not recommended) and get it done quicker. It does come with a risk of potential cracks in future.
Something similar. Better to be safe than sorry, really.

Adrian's car if it I was dry sumped wouldn't need an Accusump , Accusump is used on wet sump cars.
We have used Accusump on numerous GT86's and with the use of the Ecutek and race Rom maps we control the Accusump to only work when the car is under load.

Isn't it great when the car hums along beautifully, everything is working well and power is there when you need it?  Not to mention go-kart like responses.  I love this car!
Next job for me is fitting the STI front lip, which is rated as tricky and there is a YouTube video worth following.  Apparently they send the instructions for the pre-facelift model despite the lip being for 2017+ and they don't show all the correct locations for the stick-on drilling templates.  I need a dry day to get the car up on axle stands and get the job done.  Preferably not freezing cold.

    This is interesting information
Seems the Valve Springs part number although listed under different years is the same from 04/2012 to 05/2016
Then changes to another number until current build date

Mark@Abbey M/S reacted to Kodename47 in What supercharger? (Maybe turbo)
Well that's the 1st I've heard of that happening, I call BS. It'd also be rather hard to happen. Far more likely to blow a head off or the rod will break and blow a hole in the block; but you're not going to separate the block and definitely not on something with low boost. Plus you can build boost protection in with EcuTek to prevent those kind of events from happening.
Just an FYI but this is a stock FA20 block, notice the "crack"

Normally if a part has a supplier change or change due to material it is given a new part number.

Been in conversation with our local dealer regards the recall and can we buy the updated springs.

So we are looking into if the later car say a 2017 valves springs will be the same spec as recall springs

The valve springs being changed wont fix your issue , if it is like the few we have diagnosed it will be a valve  control soleniold I expect.

Going to be interesting , tbh it is a fairly major strip down , motor out , timing chain cover off , timing chain off , cam  carrier off , then we fit valve springs without removing the cylinder heads, we have a tool made to allow the spring to be removed with the cylinder head in situ. Hold the valves in position with compressed air. But would I want a dealer working on our car I dont know TBH never had much confidence in our local dealer.

    Well we have been told it would be released early 2018 and here it is;
The GT-RS will work real well with the FA20 motor as long as we can control the torque on a stock motor. I think HKS are pushing there luck with running 40 kg/m torque where we run only around 30kg/m  max torque on the Harrop SC kit installs.
Intercooler set up is very much like our Turbo kit we have produced in very small numbers and now with this kit released we may retire our kit TBH.
Will have a think about ordering a kit but I think We will miss the awesome torque the Harrop produces looks like the HKS kit doesn't pull until 3500rpm which I feel will make our light cars a little aggressive on the torque curve.
Going to look to work a price out from drive in drive out kit , the HKS stock motor plots had injectors fitted so we hope to be able to tame the tune down to run stock injectors/fuel pump.
Should be a awesome piece off equipment thou anything that comes from HKS will be a excellent fit and will look and last for a long time.

Only saw this today so perhaps a little late but I’m based in Southern Ireland and had Mark at Abbeymotorsport do a remote tune on my trackcar after I installed a HKS supercharger, so it’s easily done with just a few data logs passed back and forth via e-mail.
I would recommend Momentum Motorsport in Lisburn too,  the owner Andrew has a Synergie V8 brz and I bought my GT86 race car off him. He will be able to sort out with anything you need and is well known for high end engine builds. He can also provide anything from Litchfield’s as he’s their Irish agent.
