Sadly after owning my 86 for 31/2 years I have now sold it. Was a bit sad to see it head off down the road especially after the 1000’s I had put into the car. Using it as an only car I decided I fancied something a bit more comfortable and was looking for an automatic for city driving.
Only positive really is I’m keeping with Toyota’s and picking up my corolla 2.0 tomorrow. Hopefully in a couple of years the GR86 will drop in price then I can run one as a fun car

Daninplymouth got a reaction from BRZ-123 in In comes the GR86
Sure an LS swap will cost 3-5times what it does to forge an FA20 or swap to an FA24

Daninplymouth reacted to BRZ-123 in Fuel when lower compression
Like others have said , you have 2 choices:
1. Ask you tuner to do 3 maps , 95 , 97 and 99 RON and use the right map based on fuel. A dyno run will show you the difference but I wouldn't expect a difference of more than 10 BHP from one tune to the other.
2. Carry an octane booster in the boot, Millers petrol power ecomax and use it to boost 97 to 99 Oct.
When going forged, the fuel will be my last worry. At such high power levels , you need to think of more supporting mods like , gearbox, Differential, fuel pump, injectors, clutch etc as stock components cannot go that far or will get worn very quickly.

Daninplymouth got a reaction from Jay Bamrah in Tuning development NA kit, should I also get super res catback?
I found the res to drones with the manifold swap it had a really loud jump in volume around 3000rpm no matter how little throttle you were using. I swapped mine out for the super res and found it much better although the turbo has quietened it down a bit now so tempted to go back to res.
if you tried the res and found it to late I’d be happy to swap out the centre pipe with my super res 👍🏻

Daninplymouth got a reaction from sam534 in BBK choices
Hi, I’m looking to order my bbk just torn between the Reyland 4pots and the ksport set.
I know there is plenty of good reviews of the ap callipers that reyland use. Is there any feedback regarding the ksports? I think there was a few issues early on but they redesigned them, on my previous car ksports were really popular and had good reviews.
ksports pro’s are cheaper outright price, bigger discs and come in yellow which I wanted. Reyland have a lot of positive reviews.
car is now mainly just used for fun and prob 3-4trackdays I’d like to do this year

Surely mileage that low would be an issue with the car. Can’t see the brand of petrol having that much of an impact

Just to add in I believe TD use 5w40 in their turbo kit

Wouldn’t make any odds to me as I already do 41/2 hours so the move might be better for me 👍🏻
collection and delivery would be handy though especially for those bigger jobs

Bit of a follow up now on the turbo as although it’s only been a few days I have spent far to long in the car for my liking.
i think it is a great mod and really now feel this is how the car should’ve been from the factory or offered as an upgrade R type model or something.
the boost picks up really well and comes on nice and strong, it is so smooth though I would imagine it’s very similar to a supercharger.
paired with the super res cat back the exhaust note has really calmed down, Mike thought it was to quiet. But after a disaster at cadwell I was pleased it was running as it was on a late night run across the country. You get the nice induction noise as the turbo starts spoiling and the classic pssst when letting off, I had mine recirculated back into the system and you can still hear this fine inside the car.
also had the TD oil cooler fitted and this dropped my temps a good 20-30degress, before long road trips I would sit at 105-110 where as now it seems about 85. At my last track outing my oil got to almost 130degrees and this was at about 2degrees ambient air temp. Yesterday it was at 90-100 or so max

Full decat with the TD super res cat back and had the turbo plumbed back in rather than a screamer pipe. It is quite quiet but I think I prefer it now feels very oem
