  1. Sold to the very nice gent @fubarphill
  2. For sale: MY99 Subaru Impreza 16" wheels with Nokian winter tyres These are my winter seasonal wheels up for sale and fit the '86 perfectly and really suit the car, to my eyes at least. When I bought the wheels they weren't in the greatest shape finish wise so I scrubbed them down and gave them a quick home refurbish. They're far from concourse, but as a set of winter alloys they're perfectly fine and run straight and true without any vibrations or such. The Nokians have about 2-3mm on the rears and about 3-4 on the fronts so won't last much longer but might see you through this winter, particularly if you rotate them. They're stored in wheel covers, same as these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/XL-size-SPARE-COVER-WHEEL/dp/B00O2BGFMU , which I've marked which corner they've come off, so they've always gone back on the same corner. They're currently a bit dirty with brake dust since I took them off in a rush in spring and haven't got round to clearing them up so gloves would be useful for handling out of the bags. I'm looking for £150, collection from Crich in Derbyshire or could meet within an agreed short distance. Free cup of tea on collection

    Invidia N1 catback exhaust

Thanks Dave It helped greatly that you were also so easy to deal with and didn't mind me taking a bit of time to sort things out so that you ended up with what you wanted, so kudos to you too.
  4. For sale: Invidia N1 catback titanium tip exhaust This has been on my car for approximately the last three years so is showing a bit of surface blemishing and protective dirt but will clean up with some elbow grease and autosol if you like your exhausts shiny. All welds are fine. For those of you who like your exhausts subtle, stop reading and walk away now, this is one of the louder ones. When I first fitted it I wondered if I'd actually made a mistake as the contrast with stock was so great, but once used to it I've grown to love it over the years. It's good for early warning as my better half tells me she can hear me about half a mile away if she's out in the garden so knows when I'm on my way home. Having just switched back to stock, only because I'll be selling up next year, my comment on the stock was that it felt like I'd gone deaf as I could barely hear it. So if you like them loud, check out some online vids for a feel of what it's like then get in touch if interested. The exhaust will come with three new gaskets since I thought it best to sell it all ready to fit, some stainless steel bolts with brass nuts that I had it secured with on my '86 and after a quick cleanup they're still in excellent condition. I had greased them all up to to help protect them which I've mostly cleaned off. In addition to the exhaust as shown in the pics, it comes with the two silencer bungs, which I've never used and can't find the retaining bolts for them, but any small bolts should hold them in place once inserted into the silencers. I'm looking for £400, collection from Crich in Derbyshire or could meet within an agreed short distance. Free cup of tea on collection I initially responded to: so, if price/location isn't an issue, @Dave86 and @willclarke could already be interested so I'd like to honour their interest first.
  5. On hold for fubarphill to come have a look

    Invidia N1 catback exhaust

Let me have a look Dave and see what I can find out. We've a big monitor box at work that could suffice but I'll need to get measurements and see if it'll fit. Alternatively, we have an office down in Surrey near Hampton Court palace that I occasionally go down to so it might be possible to sort something out to coincide with a visit if you're not in an immediate rush. I'll get some measurements and possibilities looked into tomorrow once I get an idea of the box size and if stuff might fit.

No worries Will. I wouldn't want someone to end up with something louder than they'd ideally like and this is pretty loud certainly compared to stock. That said, how loud is loud? The following video is a good comparison of stock with the N1. Again, all depends on the ears and the microphone as to what's palatable or not, I just want to make sure people realise this isn't quiet.

I've just finished taking it off and putting the original back on. I'll put up a proper for sale soon with some pictures and give Dave first consideration followed by Will. I can give a bit more detail, pictures and price then

    Greetings

Hi all, I've been reading on here for a while but only just signed up. Had my orange 86 for a few weeks now since trading in my very functional but dull Yeti for it. The 86 is much more my cup of tea, actually giving me feedback through the pedals, wheel and aurally so much more at home with it. Nothing major done with it at the moment, swapped out the standard USB/3.5mm for a dual USB port, spare wheel sorted, Raceseng cam plate cover in my posession but not fitted yet, hopefully will cure the occasional oil stink which pervades through the cabin at times. Other than that, got a set of old Impreza wheels to have a go at a DIY refurb and get shod with winter tyres (one area where I feel the Yeti might win). No other plans yet, other than to just enjoy driving the thing It's been on my radar ever since sitting in Alec's and drawing parallels with the old 240z which I'd love to have but as a daily car need something reliable. Only real niggle so far is that it won't connect my phone (Mediatek chipset), but got an update being done tomorrow to see if this will update the bluetooth on the nav module (allegedly will) so that it will then connect functionality properly. Might see you around at some point Steve

    USB slot question

I have one of those in 32GB form and it works fine with the 24GB or so of music on it. I have a 64GB one too, which is a little bigger, but since the 32GB one still has capacity I haven't ventured to try it so no idea if it'll actually work ok with it or not.

    Bacon smell

The dealer fix is to remove the plate, clean it up, add new sealant and replace. It may happen again, or if you're lucky, may be fine. Alternatively, you can buy 3rd party plates that have a rubberised seal embedded in them that should hopefully form a better seal. I've got one of these, just haven't got to the point of fitting it yet.

What other marques are you all into?

Our puma lasted really well. I had it for about a year until my mate forced me to drive his Scoob. At the third time of asking I gave way, knowing I'd want to buy one. Lo and behold, a plan was hatched and the missus bought the Puma off me and owned it for the next 8 years and racked up about 120k miles in it. Barely a thing went wrong with it and it was so chuckable and fun at low speeds. The racing variant was lovely, but with gravel rash issues, a hefty price tag and not much more power, it was a step too far for me that I wasn't happy to take. I'll have to try a VTEC Honda at some point, it's one of those cars that has always passed me by

What other marques are you all into?

I looked long and hard at the teg DC5 and also the civic FD2, but they hold their money so well I couldn't bring myself to part with the cash. I'd still have one for the right price, but happy with the 86 right now. I had a UK impreza turbo back in the day with a few tweaks, and I do really miss the seating position and the full on sound, hence why I've been scouring over exhaust options recently but will once again have to weigh up sound vs cost Gearbox wise I think I have to rate my old ford puma as one of the best I've used for feel.

What other marques are you all into?

I have a lower spec Caterham in the garage for sunny days, missus has my old Mk3.5 MX-5, both fun cars to drive. I can't shake a hankering for a Land Rover Defender, so will no doubt end up with one at some point, and if I can get my mits on a 50th anniversary one (or modified one), I can satisfy the desire for a V8 at the same time. My other lusted after marques are a Datsun 240z, 1973 RHD 911 RS touring and a RA28 Celica. So nothing overly modern really
  19. Well, car is back from the dealer having had a map update purely to get the firmware update in the hope that it would pair correctly with my phone, a THL 5000. This phone uses the Mediatek MTK6592 chipset, and would tell me it was paired with the touch and go headunit, but not enable any of the connectivity options (phone, music, internet). My phone connected fine in my 2011 Skoda Yeti, so I saw no reason it wouldn't work with the Toyota unit. My dealer have been pretty good in trying to sort it, for me without the update but to no avail. I'd read on the web that version 2.10.5 should allow it to work, at least it did for a different Mediatek phone user. The dealer confirmed that the version that would go on would be 2.11.5. Once I'd picked the car up, I confirmed that the version was updated, attempted to pair my phone.....nope, still got the same problem. Bugger. My dealer had confirmed that my phone would pair fine with a plain touch unit, but as the go part of it overrides a lot of functionality in the main head unit, including the bluetooth, it would appear the go module is inferior in comparison. Looks like I'll need to get a new phone or head unit, more than likely a phone as I don't actually mind the head unit. I could refit one of two I have spare, the SPH-DA100 or my old pristine DEH-P77MP, but I really can't be bothered so I think I'll shift those on instead. So time for a new mobile phone, at least my mum gets a newish replacement My main gripe with all of this is that you cannot update the firmware in isolation nor can you update it for free. That's really poor from Toyota and far from 99% of other electronics providers. Fortunately, I didn't pay for the update, I would have been might peeved if I'd shelled out £110 to find I was no better off

Sounds like a plan! My better half has a MX-5 so something for both of us. I best check the calendar and see how we're fixed

    Bluetooth and Mediatek chipset phones

Yep, pairs fine with my other half's OnePlus One (Qualcomm chipset) offering up Phone and Music straight away. With mine, it pairs, so it's aware of the phone, but once it failed to connect any services the first time, upon attempting to re-enable any of the services it fails. The dealer had it for most of a day with my phone a couple of weeks ago, and he had no luck either. As mentioned, he could get it to pair fine with another vehicle that was just the touch, that was at the same firmware version. My options are now basically: 1. New phone 2. 3rd party headunit 3. Remove the nav module off my touch and go 4. Live without it being paired It's frustrating that it works with the head unit alone, but not the nav module

    Greetings

Thanks for the offer James, unfortunately as Alec points out, some way away from Essex. Fortunately I'm not an impulsive person, probably far too much the other way in that it takes me ages to make my mind up, so plenty of time for me to get out and about and hear a few

    Greetings

Yeah James, every now and then, I get a light whiff of burnt oil, not all the time, but when I do, it's more often than not been when I've pulled up, or slowed down for some lights or something. I did think about taking it back to Toyota to redo, but wasn't convinced with the flat plate to flat surface with gunk inbetween, so will feel a little happier with the rubber seal helping. I've watched the replacement video from Raceseng and it doesn't look too bad, although I'll likely replace from above rather than below. Thanks everyone for the very warm welcome, nice to be greeted by a decent bunch of people Long term, I'd quite like to get the proper burble back, having owned a decatted MY00 classic Impreza back in my more youthful days, so I've been reading around about UEL manifolds. Lots to choose from, so would be good to get myself along to one of the meets to listen to some of those that have made the swap. I don't mind loud, used to love my old Scoob sound. Almost bought a blobeye Scoob, but was sold on the coupe styling instead. Still wouldn't mind another Scoob though I can never make my mind up with cars, the Yeti only managed to last 10 months in my ownership

    Greetings

I used to work with him (for my sins) so have been talked to death oft enough, not that I'd say Alec has an opinion on things or anything Love the big fella though! James, Skally, it looks like the cam plate is leaking slightly, dark discolouration at the bottom of the existing plate, although I've not rubbed my finger along it yet, but the clear colour difference was enough to make me think I had the leak. The car's new to me, but 2nd hand, with just over 12k on the clock. There's visible signs of the green gunk, but only just. Since I've got the cam plate now, I've just got to get around to fitting it. Surely it can't be any worse than what's on there Thanks for the warm welcome all, hope to see some of you soon
