    GT86 Racecar build

    I hadn’t really planned the next mod but a little man maths and my inherent weakness for billet parts was just too much to resist Initially I was thinking along the usual route of buying individual suspension parts control arms, toe rods etc but the Wisefab kits actually make more sense and they have the added benefit of beautiful billet uprights which have a built in 25mm drop on the knuckles all round. I always associated Wisefab with drifting parts but they also make track kits that maintain the original track widths front and rear, giving pretty much all the adjustment you could ever want. More important for me though was that fact the kits correct the suspension geometry for lowered cars, whilst also saving 14kg on the rear and 7kg up front which is pretty significant on a suspension system. Rear Kit Front kit I’ve only managed to fit the rear so far, unfortunately I couldn’t source the rear kit in black. Its a relatively straight forward install, but did require a few tweaks to the AP racing 4 pot calliper bracket to make it work with the billet knuckles mounting points. Side by Side of the old OEM components and new Wisefab rear kit New Bits installed on the rear, you can really see just how high the hub is placed in the new knuckle Hopefully I’ll get a decent run at the front over the next week or so, and then carry out a quick alignment before the next track day.

    Hi all I actually picked up my 86 last month but work and driving it have got in the way of posting here. It's a Blue Edition with the performance pack, and while I'm the second owner it was a little used demonstrator so feels like a new car! Daily driver (but working from home for now so not that daily) and the plan is to keep it standard for now. I'm loving getting to know it and haven't had a hint of buyers remorse. It's the first car I've owned in a while that makes me grin just looking out of the window and knowing that it's mine. I've always said it's better to spend money on making the driver quicker with track days/tuition than making the car quicker. I've never actually stuck to that motto, but I'm hoping this is the first time!

    Lowering Springs Eibach 35-40mm

    The 35-40mm springs on the standard wheels will cause them to sit very far inside the wheel arch. You’ll probably want to add wheel spacers to pull the wheel and tyre to the edge of the arch. Something else to bear in mind is that a 40mm drop will lose pretty much all of your damper travel, so the car will ride on the bump stops most of the time. Most springs with this drop will come with shorter bumpstops to give you some damper travel back I’d expect a very bumpy ride. Its also worth noting that it will put more camber on the front and rear wheels so the tyres will wear on the inside and the rear toe angle will change less favourably. I had mine lowered 40mm on coilovers which looked great, not good but not fun with speed bumps or getting a jack underneath or weaving around twigs in the road because you can drive around them anymore. Not to mention it put extra strain on the differential and driveshafts as the angle changes. You’ll hear it on full lock. If you do high mileage then just be prepared to wear things out much quicker. This is of course my opinion and experiences. Whilst the springs are cheap other costs will be involved, camber bolts, new shocks sooner, less tyre life and higher mechanical wear.

    Welcome. Very nice! If it was available when I bought mine, I think I would have gone for the blue performance pack version. Kept mine stock for 3 years and loved every minute of driving it road and track. Only now starting to add a few things. Definitely fulfils the look back test, always glance back after parking it, even now! Also nice pies!

    I had mine lowered 40mm+ on coilovers with slightly larger than standard wheels. It rode almost the same as on standard wheels/suspension. Went over all speedbumps, no fuss.

    I'm on H&R Super Sports springs with about 35mm lowering, if it helps. I don't have a great deal of clearance with the front lip, I've had to re-tighten it in place about 5 times now!

    All UK cars have the bigger discs apart from the 29 or so Primo cars sold.

    Yes, you and speed humps will get to know each other well 😄. I took those springs off as it was too low for the area where I live with the crappy roads and number of speed humps. 25mm would be a much better choice in my opinion, especially with a splitter. 35-40mm will look cool though 😉. Personally I went for adjustable coilovers so there is the option to adjust. Bit of a price difference though..

    TEIN Flex with EDFC Active-Pro

    Some new settings I'm trying out. Note this is supposed to be a good all round road setup for general driving with the idea being it's full soft below 20km/h for speed humps and bad surfaces and then it stiffens proportionately. Note that the increases in lateral G are more than G2 stock settings. I haven't messed with longitudinal G, I just use G2 at the moment. Speed and lateral G have been changed though. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. The idea was for it to be comfortable when not trying that hard and then it stiffens up significantly when you push on and load up the G force. We'll see. NB: now corrected to show cumulative speed increase to stiffness.
