Greddy Turbo kit

Recommended Posts

I wanted to know if anyone here has fitted the Greddy turbo kit.

I'm looking to turbo my GT86 within the next year and I was looking at this kit specifically because it's a bit cheaper than others (I know I shouldn't cheap out on a turbo) but after seeing the videos of it on that popular black 86 drifting it has put my mind at ease a bit in the sense that it doesn't seem so dodgy lol. That plus the epic turbo flutter which is louder than other turbo kits has made me really consider buying it.

If anyone has fitted this kit, how is the quality/reliablity? And where did you get it fitted from? .

Thanks

The Greddy turbo kit isn't a popular option here in the UK, as most people have gone for the AVO Turbo kit from Fensport or Tuning Developments own turbo kit. I'm also not sure if the turbo kit is available anymore, as the Greddy USA website lists it a discontinued, see: http://www.greddy.com/products/turbochargers/all-turbo-kits/filter:make:Scion/. However the Japanese website has no mention of it being discontinued: https://en.trust-power.com/products/turbo/【zn6zc6】greddy-bolt-on-turbo-kit-t518z-10cm2-non-catalyzer/

As for owners of the kit I can't think of a single car fitted with the Greddy kit. There are three owners, that I'm aware of who have a replica kit, made by a company called Speed by Design which was a direct copy of the Greddy kit, but this kit had massive quality control issues and has since been discontinued.

I suspect the reason the Greddy kit never really sold here was the lack of availability and it's price. Looking around at the UK 86/BRZ specialists, only Torqen list the kit on their website: https://www.torqen.uk/toyota/toyota-gt86/turbos-superchargers/turbo-kits/4284-toyota-gt86-greddy-t51z-tuner-turbo-kit-11510094.html

However for this price it's near enough the same price as a fitted TD or AVO turbo, but for just the turbo kit, so you'd need to factor in installation costs as well.

You could also import the kit (assuming it's still available) from RHDJapan: https://www.rhdjapan.com/trust-greddy-t518z-bolt-on-turbo-kit-without-sports-catalyzer-86-zn6-brz-zc6.html, however whilst this looks cheap, you've got to add shipping which is £300, then there will be atleast another £500 for shipping and import taxes and finally installation, around £1000. This means your still looking at around £4,500 for the kit.

It also worth mentioning Greddy made a couple of different versions of the kit with turbo options and kits with and without catalytic converters. The one you want is the T518Z kit as this was designed for the stock engine and fuel system.

There's more information about the kit here on the US forum: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68154&highlight=greddy

Hope this helps.

I lied, there was once a demo car by a scottish company called RA Motorsport Development (the company has now closed down) which had the Greddy turbo kit fitted, however they sold the car to an international customer in 2015.

Thank you so much Will. This helped a lot.

I only really looked at nengun. On there it doesn't mention that the kit is discontinued. Its only 2.5k for the basic kit with the T518Z turbo (around the same price from RHDJapan). Thats what got me interested in it. However this is without shipping, import fees etc as well. I was hoping even with these costs it would save atleast a couple hundred pounds rather then going to uk turbo fitter.

The greddy kit doesnt look too promising if the direct copy had issues.

I think I might just go to Fensport or TD then.

Appreciate the help Will.

Hi, like yourself, I am after a set from nengun

But my choice is Cusco / sprintex supercharger set-up. Does anyone know if this can be bought here in UK? Or is importing my only option.

Best regards

Greg

Abbey Motorsport have been an importer of Sprintex. If you go for it, please buy the intercooled one. Do check with them as they never took off and we have very few of them around. Abbey started recommending Harrop kits after the initial couple of years. Harrop is no longer available, i believe or is on hold. Worth checking that option with Abbey as well.

Thank you! I was after harrop as the first choice, but I gave them a call around November last year and was told the same what you wrote. So started to fish around for different setups (trying to avoid hks for known AND unknown issues). Will give them a bell this week and see what's on the menu. Cusco was the other choice. And I have nothing against turbo setups, just my driving style and having so many turbo cars before 86/brz made me to go different way now.

PS. Apologies for stealing the thread of the discussion.

Greg.

I don't recommend a Sprintex, it gets very hot without the intercooler and is noisy (but a nice noise). I had to buy a vented bonnet for my previous car because of the heat.
