Tom21 10 Report post Posted March 3, 2021 So I've had 4 wheel studs snap on me after they have binded up inside the wheel nuts,I'm using the standard wheels and nuts so I don't know why it's happening. I had to get a breaker bar on them and that's when they broke, just wondering if it's a known issue and if it's worth changing them all out for new ones. nikndel 509 Report post Posted March 3, 2021 I have heard of different types of metal reacting to each other but standard studs and nuts is suprising
MovesWithClouds 5 Report post Posted March 3, 2021 I have had a series seized nuts in the past. For a while I thought the torque on the nuts was not quite right but in hindsight the probable cause was that I plastidipped the wheels and that the contact area between nut and wheel was not entirely clean. This can lead to the nut loosening, and when the nut loosens the threads on the bolts gets overstressed and the nuts seize. So I'd make sure the holes of the wheels where the nut makes contact are absolutely clean.
MovesWithClouds 5 Report post Posted March 4, 2021 Oh another thing, replace all the nuts where you spot thread damage. Easy to spot, it makes them difficult to turn by hand. They're cheap anyway.
Tom21 10 Report post Posted March 4, 2021 Yeah I think I'm going to replace them with stock studs for now and look to get some ARP ones or somethingSent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
