Leeky 84 Report post Posted June 9, 2020 Hey guys and gals Does anyone know if Genuine Toyota oil filters for the 86 have anti-drainback valves? They used to fit them to the Supra 2JZ/Celica 3S filters but I cant find anything online that confirms if the 86’s 4U filters have them. Been googling the TRD Oil filter (MS500-18001) and there is no mention of any anti drainback valve. There is mention of a “OEM style” pressure relief valve but thats not the same thing. The OEM part number is SU003-00311. If I stick this into google I find sites that are saying its a part number that’s interchangeable with 90915-YZZS1 and if I google that I find pages that say things like “All Genuine Toyota Oil Filters Incorporate an anti-drainback valve” but none of these sites actually belong to Toyota. Kodename47 446 Report post Posted June 9, 2020 Try Subaru info as I'm fairly sure they are used in multiple engines and like all the parts on this car, they are just re-branded Toyota and given the Toyota part number. 1 Leeky reacted to this
Leeky 84 Report post Posted June 9, 2020 Cheers for the tip. This led me to something interesting I found on the STI website - “reduces pressure loss by 10%” https://www.sti.jp/en/parts/subarubrz_zc/engine/ST15208ST010/ So this is the first time I’ve actually seen figures associated with performance BRZ/86 oil filters. Would be interesting to know if the TRD filter is the same filter with a different logo printed on it or if there is a difference between them. Also came across the HKS Oil Filters which claim “improves oil pressure drop and flow properties by approximately 30%” https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product/oil/oil_filter/index.html
Church 209 Report post Posted June 10, 2020 If it's anything like with air filters, where in many cases reducing pressure drop & increasing flow goes at expense of worse filtering, no thanks.
Leeky 84 Report post Posted June 10, 2020 My oil is only in the car for a maximum of 2000 miles so i'm happy to sacrifice a little filtration for extra pressure.
