There also seems to be a bit of manufacturing differences which could account for it - e.g. when I only had lowering springs I had more rear camber on one side than the other, which I've seen other people have but then some have pretty even camber. I guess a relatively small chassis difference will make a decent amount of difference overall to the camber, etc shown
choupolo 31 Report post Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) Ok thanks guys. Ordered Tein Flex As and Rear Lower Control Arms from TD. https://www.tuningdevelopments.uk/product_info.php?cPath=502_625_629&products_id=2556 https://www.tuningdevelopments.uk/product_info.php?cPath=502_625_629&products_id=2627 Had to cancel the rear lights order as I realised they were US spec and may not be what I expected. Instead I've ordered the Valenti REVO Jewel - Clear / Red lens from @James@Amber. There's a 4-6 week lead time on those. https://www.amber-performance.co.uk/product.php?xProd=26254&xSec=8595 Also steering wheel retrim cancelled as Royal didn’t have the facelift steering wheel in stock. Instead I've ordered a DIY kit from East Detailing which for ~£50 I get a premade material to my spec (alacantara, grey stitching, yellow centre stripe) that I would complete on my wheel by following set thread pattern. Seems interesting so lets see how it turns out! https://www.eastdetailing.com/collections/infiniti/products/copy-of-1998-2008?variant=30936307400819 So getting suspension bits next week, and waiting to hear specifics about TE37 and BBK orders. Can’t wait! Edited June 10, 2020 by choupolo
choupolo 31 Report post Posted June 12, 2020 Update: Tried my hand at vinyl wrapping the Toyota emblems today! Now matte grey. Happy with my first attempt, not perfect but looks good from a distance! Can always reapply if it falls off. What do you think? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323493929026 - matt dark grey - all 3 emblems with one 20x30cm piece for £3. Also need a scalpel and a hairdryer. Meanwhile, suspension and LCAs have arrived, BBK coming Monday. Waiting on steering wheel trim, rear lights and TE37s. Think I will do the suspension and BBK when the new wheels are here. Is there a way of getting the ride height, stiffness, camber and toe right first time without going up and down repeatedly??
choupolo 31 Report post Posted July 4, 2020 Finally got round to putting the Alcantara steering wheel trim from East Detailing on myself. I’m very happy with the end result. Not as professional as having someone proper do it, there’s a bit round the back that didn’t quite sit right but it’s not noticeable. Took me a couple of hours to do after watching their tutorial video. I decided to take the front of the steering wheel off to get a better result rather than use the tool they use in the videos to stuff the material into the gaps without taking it off. Much much better that way. There are lots of videos of how to remove the steering wheel but I only had to remove the airbag and plastic bits on the front, not the whole steering wheel. Anyway, here’s the end result. Let me know what you think! Just rear lights and wheels left to receive now, and then BBK and suspension will go on and will then make that trip to TD for the tune. 1 Lauren reacted to this

Weigh in : 7.7 kg Can finally get the Flex A suspension and AP racing BBK on with these. Just need to get tyres and a few other bits. Shippers 30 Report post Posted August 14, 2020 Love those wheels. Great choice, can't go wrong with Rays. Some pics on the car please once you have them fitted 😀 Tire size sounds right but I'm sure others who are running this size can 100% confirm. 1 choupolo reacted to this

choupolo 31 Report post Posted August 25, 2020 Was about to put the wheels brakes and suspension on my day off today but it’s chucking it down. So instead experimenting with some smoke vinyl wrap on the tail lights. Thought it might look nice on a dark grey car. Quick poll: left or right??
will300 812 Report post Posted August 26, 2020 Love the wheels, seeing them makes me regret not getting a set, but they're so bloody expensive and they don't do them in gold. 😄 As for the tail lights, I personally like the look of the smoked one. 1 choupolo reacted to this

choupolo 31 Report post Posted August 26, 2020 I’ve got the tyres on the wheels now. They’re pretty much the same profile as before, which is what I wanted. Weight-wise, being 17x9” wheels, the extra rubber almost negates the lightness of the wheel itself. The total weight is 17.9kg per wheel. I need to weigh the stock wheels but I worked out from figures online they would be around 18.1kg (does that sound right?) But it wasn’t possible to get the concavity from the narrower wheels. They do the TE37 Saga in bronze don’t they...which is almost gold! So I tried to work on the car today. But I got stuck. The drop link bolt was a nightmare! It was completely rusted and seized, and I couldn’t get it off in the end. Bit disappointed as that meant I couldn’t do the suspension which means the wheels won’t go on and therefore the brakes won’t fit yet! Any advice on getting a rusted drop link bolt off would be most welcome! Got the lights on though. They look good. My vinyl wrap work was far from perfect though and I may well rip it off when I get sick of seeing all the wrinkles and bubbles!

choupolo 31 Report post Posted September 5, 2020 Ok suspension and wheels done. Took much longer than I thought it would! Worked into the dark yesterday, checked it all over today. It’s dropped about an inch. Got the camber dialled. The rear toe isn’t quite right yet. BBK needs doing still. I need some advice. I’m still not fully happy with it. The ride feels very strange at the back, like it’s moving around/wobbly, even at slow speeds. To the extent I wouldn’t be happy taking it to work via the motorway on Monday. I’m certain I’ve tightened everything to spec. There’s too much toe in at the back, easy to see visually. I’m going to straighten this out and take it to an alignment shop. But would that be enough to cause such bad wobble? The coilovers damping is set to 7 clicks from hard. Could it be that? I plan on hardening them up, sorting the toe then reassessing. In the meantime here are some pictures. I think it looks pretty good!
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted September 5, 2020 If you've not had an alignment done, then you have no idea how much you've changed the geometry and this (plus tyre pressures?) can cause the car to handle badly, even dangerously. I would have had the alignment done as part of the suspension swap, or have it booked in ready for when you did the work if done at home. 1 choupolo reacted to this
choupolo 31 Report post Posted September 5, 2020 Thanks. Yes a professional alignment is for sure coming before I drive it anywhere. I wasn’t sure how long it was going to take me yesterday and which is why I hadn’t booked anything. I have another car in the meantime.
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted September 6, 2020 I expect your rear toe is miles out. Get it aligned first then see. 1 choupolo reacted to this
sam534 62 Report post Posted September 6, 2020 If you haven't touched the toe then it will be miles out, when I did mine and drove a couple of miles to the alignment shop it felt like I was driving in a massive cross wind. Don't judge anything till you get an alignment.Sent from my COL-L29 using Tapatalk 1 choupolo reacted to this
choupolo 31 Report post Posted September 6, 2020 Ah cool, thank you. Yes that’s what it feels like a massive cross wind! The toe is visibly out, I’ll straighten it as much as possible and take it for its alignment. Fingers crossed!
choupolo 31 Report post Posted September 7, 2020 Alignment done. Went to Drury Lane Garage in Oldham. Top class job done same day within a few hours, very friendly and got to chat about trackdays etc. Now have -2.5 camber front, -2.0 rear and very slight rear toe-in. They checked over all my handiwork to ensure it was all safe. I left the dampers at 7 clicks. The wobbly handling is cured, hurray! Feels very planted so far, as much as you can feel on the road anyway. Once the BBK is in, I'm rebooking the last track day I had planned that was cancelled due to covid back in March (anyone planning to do a Circuitdays event soon?). Will post some beauty shots of the finished car soon once its stopped pouring. Just saving up for the TD NA tune now. spikyone 139 Report post Posted September 7, 2020 There's this one through Circuit Days, Silverstone in early November. Between you, me, and @VAD17 we could make it 3 grey GT86s and 2 sets of TE37s 😂 2 VAD17 and choupolo reacted to this
choupolo 31 Report post Posted September 7, 2020 Really tempting! I've never done Silverstone. I'd need to get time off work though. A parade of GT86s around there would be epic!
