Servicing query??

Recommended Posts

I have a question regards to servicing on my 2013 GT86.

Car has got 71,000 miles and has full service history including the big one at 60,000. It was last serviced in January at the same time as the MOT , both completed by Toyota.

I will only be doing 3,000/4,000 miles per year and that is really an over estimate so it will be very low mileage compared to the previous owner. Also the car will never be tracked.

The Toyota warranty has expired and the used car warranty will run out in January so with all the above in mind I am thinking that I can have the car serviced every 2 years rather than every 12 months. Can anybody think of any issues that this may cause or any recommendations regards to switching to a 2 year servicing schedule positive or negative.

As always all opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, just 3-4K .. that's very little.

Due that, i wouldn't take out doubling servicing intervals though, i prefer better be safe then sorry, who knows, maybe there is also some expiring at place for some of fluids or rubber, if toyota & subaru had mileage OR time as when servicing due whichever was hit first. In my book in relation to servicing intervals is only cutting them shorter, if car is used harder then normal driving, eg. tracked, as imho sometimes vendor servicing intervals might be too lax, just enough to get car through warranty of 3-5 years, not so much for one wanting to keep/use car very long, so i'd prefer at least changing oils at higher pace.

Or, i'd sell it off now for even better price then eg. +3 years +10K miles and with less frequent servicing, which will drop from it's current price. Servicing just one of expenses car needs. Insurance, taxes, trickle charger for battery (with little driving high chance for battery to go flat few times). Upkeep of undriven car will be expensive, so should you? If you ever will want to return to twins, later on buy another, just newer, MY2017 restyle maybe.

I'd always get a car serviced every year, especially a high performance car like this.

If the Toyota costs are too much, which I think they are, why not shop around some local garages or indie Toyota specialists?

It will devalue the car when you come to see it too.

With regards to fluids, some of them degrade by collecting water. Chiefly brake fluid and engine oil to a lesser extent. The water in the engine oil can evaporate off with good hard use, but brake fluid becomes very not fun if it gets moist, so you should keep it and the clutch fluid on periodic schedule.

I'd do my own oil changes with an oil extractor like a Pela, then it only costs you about 50 quid a year and you don't have to take the car in unnecessarily.
