Hi All,

I'm based in Trowbridge in WIltshire - got my '12 Pearl White 86 about 6 weeks ago; absolutely adore it. I was eyeing up modifications of my own even before I found the car, so I was thrilled when I was able to actually make a few little changes of my own! I actually work in Culham near Oxford, so if there's anybody between here and there - I've probably seen you!

I've also decided to keep my Mazda 6 as the workhorse - I've not tried to see how many fence panels one can get in the 86; but I don't think its many.

As I said, I've made a few little mods so far; an FT86 UEL manifold (catted), Milltek overpipe - I've got a Milltek catback in my cupboard - and just making a decision about which frontpipe to opt for (I'm considering the Berk (catted) one at the moment), but we'll see.

I'll write a proper post about these bits another time - but in the meantime I thought I'd just write to say hello - and look forward to listening and contributing to discussions on here!

Bye for now!

Peter

ooohh... also, mine has got its valve spring recall soon - intrigued to see how they get on. I don't know if Toyota might offer a Supra as a courtesy car....? :D

Welcome! I'm only over in West Ashton so surprised I haven't seen you before!

Have you got your recall booked in with Platinum Toyota? I'm hoping to get mine done there but wanted a good price on a service at the same time...

Thanks for the welcome; definitely a lot of people with fine taste!

I have got mine booked in at Platinum, yes - they said they've done one already; so fingers crossed there's no issues. It's due in tomorrow, and while they said it'll take three days, I can't pick it up again until Thursday, so I'll le you know how it gets on! Can't really comment about the servicing though; it had its 6-yr last Sept, so it doesn't really need any extra work. They also offered to do the spark plugs and clutch for just the cost of the parts - £85 & £190ish respectively - (it seems a few people have mentioned this), but plugs were part of the 6-yr service, and the clutch has only done 35k, so I turned the offer down.

Might be worth mentioning a discounted service cost though... especially if it needs new plugs!!

Welcome aboard, Peter. Enjoy the car. Have you had it remapped yet? You'll need to do it that with the manifold, though as you've still got the primary cat, it's probably not much different to stock. I'm not sure I'd bother with a Berk cat for the front pipe, better to go with a straight though pipe if you've still got a primary cat.

I'm afraid you won't get a Supra as a courtesy car. I got a Blue Edition with Performance Pack, see if you can better that. 🤣

I am definitely enjoying it! Not entirely practical - but I can live with that :)

I've not had it remapped yet; the manufacturer and supplier of the manifold (FT86 Speedfactory, in the US) implied that while it's certainly better to have it mapped, it can cope without one perfectly well - but a mapping session is something I'm saving up for, and plan to do it as soon as reasonably possible. I must admit, I'm not committed to making maximum power... I'm just(!) looking for the nice burble, and hopefully my set up is similar to some of the videos I've seen on the net.

As for the recall - I dropped it off this morning. No Supra, as you said; I got a Yaris instead. An automatic Yaris. It is a petrol-hybrid though, so it's quite interesting just wafting around in utter silence. Must be what being inside a bubble feels like...

The mapping will more increase the mid-range torque which is definitely worth doing, but keeping the primary cat may limit what benefit you can get.  But, it would be worth getting it mapped. The map won't make a difference to the sound as such, so it if doesn't burble now, it's unlikely to after the map.

Enjoy the Aygo. 😉

That's what I've read elsewhere too. I've had it on the rolling road as a baseline, and there's quite a dip - kind of surprising that Subaru didn't design that out from the start - although I guess uniform delivery of power across the rev range might have had to sacrificed for economy, or something else... especially as it (was) a brand new engine design.

I'll do a seperate post thread about the mods when I get a sec, but in the meantime, I think a remap is on the cards. I've been in touch with ECUtek and the closest to me that they recommend is H-Dev, so I think I'll touch base with them...

The Aygo's going well though; I haven't dumped the brake pedal by mistake yet, and sitting at the drive-thru at McD's in total silence was so awkward it was funny - but overtaking? Forget it.

Not sure what kind of cat ft86 use on their UEL but not sure if decatting 2nd cat would be the greatest from an emissions and mot point of view but I could be wrong.

I've got my manifold decatted but running the primary 2nd cat. Maybe swap out for a HFC if I can find a suitable set up which will still pass mot
