Izzii0x 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2018 So I got my GT86 (2012) a couple of months ago and suddenly today the heater/fan has stopped blowing any air to my front windscreen. It blows air out every other vent but won't switch to the vents I'm setting it to. No matter what button I press it comes out of every vent except the wind screen, even if I have it to windscreen only! And when I click the windscreen only button it also defaults to A/C as well. This was particularly worrying for me this morning after it took ages and wiping of the windscreen to allow myself to drive to work and I was late! Kept fogging up every few mins and wouldn't clear because no air was touching it. Is this something I can 'reset' easily or could there be something blocking the vent? Guest 86guns Report post Posted December 4, 2018 (edited) Are the little icons working in the centre knob (screen, arrow to face, arrow down)? What icons come on when you press auto? (A/C on when you press the windscreen only button is probably correct although it’s not a button I’ve ever used). I’m assuming here that you have automatic a/c (climate control). nerdstrike 186 Report post Posted December 4, 2018 Demisting is best achieved with dry air, and the aircon acts to collect the humidity and dribble it out of the car. I've never seen a vent control system malfunction, so double check you're not doing something silly. Also close the dashboard vents to increase flow to the others to see if that helps clarify what is going on. The Internet suggests that with the ignition on but the car off, if you quiet the fan, you should be able to hear the vent actuator as you change from feet to body to screen. I would start to consider it as an electrical fault. The only "reset" I can think of is to remove the battery for a bit in case the climate control has gotten itself into a state, but I have no reason to believe that would help. Also, breathe through your nose if you're not already and consider cleaning the inside of the windscreen, that will reduce the fogging a bit until you can resolve the issue. Dave86 33 Report post Posted December 5, 2018 I'm sure there was a thread recently with the same thing, and the vent actuator had died, not an easy job to repair from what I remember.
Exemandr 11 Report post Posted March 27, 2019 Hi Izzii0x, I had the exact same issue a couple of years ago, long story short the blower box (semi accessible through the glove box) has a number of motors which open and close the internal vents to direct air flow - the top motor which control's the windscreen vent was not operating. I took my car to a local independent Japanese car specialist (http://www.the-garage.co.uk/index.php) and the guy in the workshop with the skinniest arms and longest fingers was duly dispatched to see if he could remove this without removing the dash (which he couldn't) but he was able to manually maneuver the internal vents to direct air to the windscreen. So the blower is now "stuck" on the most useful setting (i.e the windscreen) and I have just lived with it like that ever since. Fixing it properly outside of warranty just didn't seem worth the hassle or expense (it's a dashboard out fix, so not cheap and likely to lead to even more rattles from the dash than there are already 😞 ). I had started a thread on this at the time over on the Toyota GT 86 Forum - full thread here -> https://www.gt86ownersclub.co.uk/forum/40-faults-fixes/10514-windscreen-blower-not-working.html cheers
nerdstrike 186 Report post Posted March 27, 2019 I have a sneaking suspicion that I've lost airflow to the footwells now. Sometimes I miss the big mechanical controls that used to do this job. 1 Church reacted to this
Church 209 Report post Posted March 27, 2019 Yeah, i miss keep-it-simple and mechanical reliability. Pitty overengineered cars being only thing of past, and current new ones following footsteps of discardable gadgets. With longer warranty and lifespan then gadgets, but still nothing of 1M mileage and 20-30y life.
