Servicing cost in 2018

Recommended Posts

My car is due a service in March so I called up to get a quote on service costs.

Beadles Toyota quoted me £231 for intermediate and £391 for full. What prices are others getting for main dealer servicing? (I'm in the south east if that makes a difference)

Also happy to take any recommendations.

Oh and they quoted me £129 for a R1234y aircon regas - booked this in as this seems a good price for the more expensive gas.

Any thoughts?

You are being ripped off. Pity you're not nearer RRG Macclesfield. No more than £99 for the refrigerant, so they are over charging. Would say £150 for intermediate and around £240 for the full service.

Which service is it? 20k miles?

4th year service, but car isn't on 20k miles yet. It's the first service in my ownership but looking at the history it looks like it's due a full service as I've been told it alternates between intermediate and full.

Where in Kent are you? Anywhere in the west of the county then a no brainer to go to Abbey Motorsport ;)

I've been down to Abbey Motorsport for work before, but would like to keep a main dealer history, at least for now.

Thank you, I will have to look around other places in my area then.

Just taken a look and direct through Toyota.co.uk it is £365 for the full.

Yeah, sorry should have said nearer £300 for the full service. I'd shop around if I was you.

Standard Toyota prices (going off the site) are a lot more than that!

Any reason why? The only possible benefit of FTSH is for dealer trade in. In every other aspect would say that a specialist is seen as preferable. Mine has been done by Abbey since new.

I imagine that warranty claims (especially when it's a marginal call, or goodwill is involved) will always be easier when there's a full main dealer service history.

Also, personally I would never consider buying a second-hand car that didn't have full main dealer history, but that's a personal choice.

I have used an independent garage for the last 15 years and have never been let down. My Hyundai main service was quoted at £800 by the main dealer, independent £650 with interim service at £96, a replacement exhaust by the main dealer £860, independent stainless steel £360. My BRZ  will be maintained by my regular garage as I can trust them

After shopping around for dealers locally, it seems that they either charge the Toyota.co.uk price or slightly more. Interestingly enough motor line were willing to regas my aircon at £49 for the r1234y gas - I did double check with them as that seems quite cheap for this!

Not had any warranty issues with mine at all. I would say that any performance car that's been serviced by a specialist is preferable over a dealer service history.

I agree, I've just bought mine this week and wouldn't have even viewed it if it hadn't had a fully stamped up Toyota Dealer Service History. Unfortunately for me I now have to get mine serviced next week with the 60,000 mile service changing the spark plugs. I've been quoted £595. I want it done by my nearest Toyota Dealer to keep it a FTSH car.

I was wondering why you need a re-gas with the R1234yf? I know that sounds like a daft question, but when the EU initially specified it for all new models (before changing their mind, but not before 2 years of EU-specced GT86's had been sold) it was on the basis that the 'green' credentials of R1234yf centered on it being seen as a 'life of the car' product that shouldn't need re-gassing unless there has been some sort of a leak in the system. The cheaper 'regular' gas normally needs a 2-3 year re-gas because the smaller molecule size means that it gradually seeps out through the rubber pipes etc. , the expensive gas shouldn't (so over the life of a cxar it should work out cheaper and have less environmental impact) So my own 2013 R1234yf gassed model is still as cold now as it was 5 years ago (thankfully, given how hot it was the other month). If yours isn't there may be a reason for it that a re-gas may not solve, so perhaps it would be worth getting a leak/seal test done on it first, particularly if it is still in warranty (as I would argue it is a warranty claim not a consumable).

Generally the reason for re-gassing is because people don't use it enough. That's when it will leak out. I've had mine on constantly for five and a half years, 120K miles. It works perfectly still, but I never turn it off. Obviously damage to the condensor or pipework that causes a leak is another matter.

@Captain Duff you are indeed correct. A month after the regas the aircon was blowing completely warm air again - took it back to motorline Toyota and they had then identified a leak in an aircon pipe. They fixed this under warranty and regassed again free of charge and my aircon has been blowing cold since then.

£129 for the 1234y gas isn't too bad. Tried to get my local garage to do it and they said costs too much to get a canister in. Milton Keynes Steven Eagell charge £240 for the 1234y re-gas.
