Andrew Smith 156 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 So I was just wondering how many musicians we have here. I play most styles of guitar and have a rock n roll, rock, blues band that we take out gigging most weekends around Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Leicester.... anywhere that will have us really https://www.facebook.com/Sneaky-Freak-1488151801451314/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel We like to boogie on a Saturday night
nerdstrike 186 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 I have been playing piano and clarinet for the last 24 years, but don't get to play much in public any more. My days in the Imperial College sinfonieta are long gone!
Andrew Smith 156 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 I should imagine the sinfonietta was amazing to be part of, not much room for a rock guitar though
nerdstrike 186 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 100 musicians, 2 sets of timpani thundering away behind me, good times. I'm trying to get into boogie woogie at the moment, but it's taking a lot of time.
Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 Another guitarist here (or guitar hoarder anyway...). Also wannabe drummer but not very good at that...
Andrew Smith 156 Report post Posted March 10, 2016 the sound must have been tremendous. I too love the boogie, I will check back in a couple of hours to make sure you have got this down
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 Does rocking it on Guitar Hero count? 1 Andrew Smith reacted to this
Andrew Smith 156 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 Absolutely does Keethos although I never did get the hang of GH because It wouldn't let me improvise
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 Lol, the newer versions of Rock Band gives players a chance to solo freestyle in some songs, I even went as far as getting the advanced guitar but never really stuck to it which is a real shame, would love to play the guitar properly. Andrew Smith 156 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 I don't know about all that rock band stuff but the best advice I can give is get hold of a guitar, buy a Justin Sandercoe beginners course and play for just 10 minutes or longer every day and see how you feel after a month, then come to me for lessons 1 Keethos reacted to this

In all seriousness - just buy one and have a go. You'd be amazed how many songs are about three chords and a bit of distortion . Which means you can have fun quite quickly. The trick is to buy a guitar and amp secondhand. They rarely lose any more value, so if you decide it's not for you you can get your money back. Just take someone you know who plays to pick one... And whatever the gear snobs might say, cheap guitars are pretty good these days....
rob275 1817 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 I played the guitar in Birmingham at about 5am after the clubs Christmas bash when everyone had gone to bed and I found a random group of people jamming on the side of the road. I was awful 3 Keethos, Mike and Nicebiscuit reacted to this
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 Why have I only just heard about this Rob? I'd thought that would have been a topic of conversation
rob275 1817 Report post Posted March 11, 2016 @Keethos I'm sure I mentioned this, I cant really say what else happened that night It was "eventful"
Ztox 230 Report post Posted March 23, 2016 I used to play bass in a Death metal / Metalcore band. Went up and down the country a few times and played some pretty decent gigs, best ones probably being at Camden Underworld. 2 spikyone and Nicebiscuit reacted to this
JRot 13 Report post Posted April 15, 2016 I was a former Grade 8 violinist, played in numerous orchestras around Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, and used to help out at a music school on the weekends. Was a long time ago 3 Nicebiscuit, nerdstrike and Andrew Smith reacted to this
Kelloggs 22 Report post Posted May 24, 2016 Guitarist for last 50 yrs, I started young. Just play for fun now. Collection includes a prs custom, a Jem signed by Steve vai , 5 pickup strat, banjo, ukelele, 12 string, variax and a couple of keyboards. Got rid of the marshal stack, it wouldn't fit in the 86 boot😀 1 Andrew Smith reacted to this

I recon we have enough folks for a club band now
Paul 442 Report post Posted May 25, 2016 Used to play bass, many years since I picked one up now. 1 Andrew Smith reacted to this
Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted May 25, 2016 Folding rear seat certainly helps. Reckon there's room for a 4x12 in there, you just might need to saw it up to get it through the boot aperture :-) Couldn't get all my stuff in. I think I'm up to four acoustics, six electrics and two basses now :-/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Andrew Smith reacted to this

Kelloggs 22 Report post Posted May 26, 2016 you need some of those new earplugs...sennapods I think they call them. BTW the drummers are on the Ford transit forum 1 Andrew Smith reacted to this
Jay 37 Report post Posted January 5, 2020 Old thread, but maybe worthwhile. I'm a bassist, not by trade, but music is one of my hobbies. I like to play covers of mainly Punk Rock, Metal songs.
spikyone 139 Report post Posted January 5, 2020 Ha, I like to pretend I can play guitar too - not good enough to play on stage though. However much I practice I'm just a bit ham-fisted. @Ztox what was the name of your band? There's a better than average chance I've seen you play at some point! Jay 37 Report post Posted January 5, 2020 I do play some other instruments as well like keyboard and guitar, bass is my main instrument. Last summer I was invited to play on stage with The Lillingtons, a punk rock band from Wyoming. Great experience! 😎
