Abbey Motorsport Sprintex Install Feedback

Recommended Posts

I first expressed interest in the Sprintex kit when I saw it at Abbey during the open day in 2013. I was very very dubious as had a bad experience with a supercharger on my Mk2.5 MX5. Several chewed belts, 2 nose puley bearings shot and my confidence was very very battered. Mark assured me this was a very good kit of OEM quality. Due to my previous experience I decided to wait and see how the kits went in the field.

At the end of May this year I was in the area and had time on my hands so made an un-anounced visit to Abbey. Mark was very accomodating and took me for a test drive. I was sold on this kit now. He had been running the kit for 9000 miles I think, with no issues to report. several kits had been installed there and also some self installs with no issues. I asked Mark to quote me and several emails went back and forwards due to my budget and final spec of the system. He was very patient and nothing was too much trouble. I paid a deposit and the install was this week. They were ready for me when I arrived and provided a loan car with the only proviso that I return it with as much fuel in as it had when I took it and of course undamaged ! All of the staff I met were friendly and polite and the workshop a hive of activity (unlike the place I had my MX5 done.......). When I collected the car it was the same courteous service. Mark explained everything and gave a demo of the map changing via the cruise control and showed where the oil level is checked on the charger and also the coolant reservoir.

The car is now absolutely fantastic. Loads of torque and tyre screeching sideways fun so easy to achieve now. Certain corners on my work route are going to have black lines on them soon. Look out Butlins visitors cos that corner on the seafront has always been a favourite - MIND THE WALL ! The Cobra 2nd cat delete pipe is great, with the H & S main system it now sounds a little Subaru-ish and from mid-range onwards really does sound sweet. The power delivery is fantastic and very very addictive. Coupled with the MTEC shift springs they fitted I would now actually class this as a sports car where before it felt more like a 2 door coupe to me. This is what the car is missing from the factory - low down torque. You now don`t need to cane it to make progress. I ended up with 234hp at the hub which I think is a very good result.

I`d like to thank Mark, Scott and the team for a very positive experience and excellent service. I feel confident that if there were to be any niggles it will be swiftly rectified. I can highly recommend them and the Sprintex kit and am so glad I took the plunge.

You're there on Monday? I'll be sure to wear a disguise!

Make sure to poke your head into the dyno room to hear a proper exhaust setup ;)

Nice. Seems like 230-ish is where these all end up.

I would pop up too, but off to look at a house.

Interesting to see what my setup with the 69mm pulley comes out with

Awww man! Screw the house! Come look at our handywork!

Thanks for doing a really good and comprehensive write up, Geoff. :)

I am considering my options and having driven all the different conversions it's a tough call to be fair. Enjoy that whine! :)

I certainly will pop my head in.... Will be good to meet you. I should be there at 09:00 straight from work. As for exhaust as I've been thinking are to completely different sounds but both top rate. Yours is more of a tuned street boxer sound deep n loud and i totally agree sound great, mine is more Motorsport esque orientated.so to compare which is best is unfair as they sound too different.its like a flat 6 or a v8 thing. I'm flat 6 all the way so you can see my approach. Bet your a v8 guy ; ) Its more what you like better. You need to put yours up against another uel set up... But I'm sure it will be close... Even with my manifold stock. But when I pick the car up with a de cat manifold and a non res front instead of my res I'm sure it will sound like a btcc car on Viagra! Lol I can't wait to see my numbers with advanced timing due to my meth/water injection.. Will be small but there will be a gain I'm sure. Pls don't comment on my meth/ water on this tread pls dyno for that will come later only a pre map will be in place. The rest is fair game peeps

As for abbey top rate. I've worked with the likes of vag tech and awesome gti on my mk5 gti.. Those guys hold no after sales like abbey and especially mark as he is all over the cars he has worked on..and carries his laptop everywhere. I saw it first hand at bhp where mark would check cars coming off track for temps etc Adrian ( Fensport) just stood there, its an observation not slander ; ) even when I had a ECU drama he was on it like a car bonnet at the meet, not even a single warning light since.. Boom.

I'm glad the Sprintex is starting to get some love here in the UK, at first it was all about the turbo and although the AVO is clearly a great bit or kit it's certainly nice to have some S/C cars on the road too, This will be fun, i'm coming to Abbey on monday aswell, though only to drop my shocks off that James has brought. (Without the top mounts of course) :)

Had a few geeky numpty questions  over map 3 and support from Mark has been excellent. Suffice to say it was operator error. Still love it and can now appreciate why map one is there (damp roads :o )
