Captain Duff 79 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Quite a few around now, although not all are particularly cheap when factoring in postage and import duties from Japan and US. So of the ones available in the UK (Cusco, Summit etc.) does anyone have any recommendations in terms of combining doing the job and value for money?
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 All bling if added on their own so get a pretty one. Master cylinder brace is the only useful part, so if you want a functional one, get that.
Pitman 188 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Why import when there are local vendors in the UK that can supply a choice?
Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 I've been pondering the Cusco one which has a master cylinder bracket (it is that one right?) that I think Mr.Knight has, but not actually looked into where to get them from and for how much.
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Because importing is cheaper, and by some margin on these.
Captain Duff 79 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Pitman - yes, that is why I am looking for UK stock as it can be a bit of a lottery if you are unlucky to have had your parcel from the US or Japan checked and have to pay VAT, import duty and royal mail documentation charges (although you could be lucky - they don't check 'em all!). That said, there are quite a few brands for things like this that you see on US and Japanese sites, but don't appear to be available from UK sellers, which while it may not mean they are any better than what you can easily get here it adds a certain exotic rarity value in my shallow eyes. As to the Cusco version with the brake brace thingy, does one actually make that much difference? I thought it doesn't actually give any more braking power, just makes the pedal feel a little more immediate?
Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Improved pedal feel, not better braking. Means you have better control over the brakes though. Most imports would still be cheaper even if you get hit by charges/tax.

Special K 442 Report post Posted December 18, 2013 I'm using the Summit top brace - with a separate master cylinder brace - but the biggest difference I've found is by combining the top brace with the Summit 4-point bottom brace. Transforms the feel and 'pointability' of the car and in my opinion is a 'must' if you're uprating your suspension. Spec K

bonzodog 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2013 How difficult are they to fit? Graham
Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 20, 2013 Looks relatively straight forward so can't imagine it being very difficult at all Graham, if you checkout the Part Box site that Pitman posted up (or just click here -> http://www.part-box.com/product_info.php?products_id=82379) there's a youtube video showing you the install in quick time. Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 20, 2013 Install is easy - just make sure the car is on flat surface 1st. You need a deep socket for the nuts that are used on the original firewall braces and don't be to heavy on them, they are prone to snapping.
Keethos 842 Report post Posted January 3, 2014 Rather than making an official group buy thread in the sales section, I just to bump this and to see if anyone else would be interested in joining me for a group by for the Cusco strut brace with master brake cylinder stopper while I get the carbon fibre version along with the BRZ side fenders? Didn't you say you were interested GT86Jay? FYI I'm no mega rush for this so will be looking at this towards the end of January possibly, but the sooner people show interests, the sooner I can contact japex_trading to see what kind of discounts we can get. Obviously please do let me know if you're interested in getting some BRZ Side Fenders too!

Keethos 842 Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Hey, you guys who were chatting to Summit on Saturday at the Autosport Performance Show, any chance of discussion about what you guys were chatting about on their stand and how the Cusco one isn't very good according to the Summit guy (sorry I couldn't stick around to listen myself as I was too busy wondering around trying get me a helmet)?
rob275 1817 Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Basically what he said was, due to Cusco being Cusco, a well known brand they didn't put any research in to their offering resulting in them sticking a small rubber disc on the end rather than a larger more substantial bung which holds the master cylinder in place a lot better. He also showed us some other parts which are poorly made compared to Summit stuff and explained why. They added unnecessary weight and had welds in all the wrong places. In short perhaps we are better speaking to Adrian on a GB of the summit brace with the MCB. He said it works, but not very well or as well as it should. faith 237 Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Are you still interested in getting the fenders? I am in two minds as I like these ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321236201449?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 rather than the colour coded ones. But then if you want the blade, would have to get it separately which would increase the cost: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280966368206?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Keethos 842 Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Hmmm....is the carbon fibre one exactly like the BRZ ones but in carbon fibre instead? the blade bit looks a lot more pronounced. Would like to see more pics of it before I can say if I like them or not.
Keethos 842 Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Just noticed that I think this part actually just sticks on top of the original BRZ Side fenders.....so you'll still need to purchase the original OEM side fenders, then this for another £100odd just to stick it on top.....which would probably make it stick out more
