Specialist garages for 60k service

Recommended Posts

Evening all! I’ll be picking up my GT86 next Thursday, and got a question I’m hoping someone can help me with.

The car has done 55k so will be coming up soon for the big 60k service. Looking it’s around the £600 Mark from the dealers, and from what I’ve read on this and other forums, may not be the best way to get it done anyway with dealers not having the most experience on these engines, but better to look for specialist garages for this car.

First of all is my understanding right here?

secondly can anyone recommend any good garages around the Sheffield/Rotherham/Chesterfield area to carry out the service

And lastly, what kind of price should I be expecting from a specialist garage? The same, more or less than the dealers?

Thanks all!

I'd suggest taking it to RRG - they've done a few of the big services now and are probably the leading Toyota centre in the UK for 86's. They're in Macclesfield so not too far from you.

Another for RRG Macclesfield. I've had 11 services done there in 112K miles, including the spark plug service at 60K. Price is around the £500 mark. I've got another spark plug service at 120K miles coming up this year. RRG Macc' must be the most experienced dealer when it comes to GT86's.

It takes about five hours to do the service.

I did a bit of research before going to look and noticed the mileage, so when I went to test drive it, managed to get the price down a bit due to it needing this service. Guess this is why the previous owner decided to chop it in!

Just spoke to RRG and they have quoted £600 inc vat for it, said they are doing a lot of these recently due to the first cars coming up to the 5/6 year’s mark, which makes sense, at least they’ll be well rehearsed!

They said it was just the trouble of raising the engine for the plugs, although reading on here I’m not too sure if this is needed, or if it can be done with the right extensions.

Any how, I know I wouldn’t be able to do it, so as long as it’s done Reyt!

My tech managed it with multiple short extensions.

But they will be six years old Nick :)

So if you brought a spark plug and left it in a box it would be worn out after 6 years 😜

I'll be getting mine changed as I'll be going FI at the same time as the service.
