Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Not used the car for a couple of weeks. Insurance coming to collect it to fix it in the morning. Battery flat. Can't get in. Tried the blade key - wouldn't open - tried some extra leverage - snapped the key. Still locked out. What do i do?

Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 I am suspecting that after my lock change a couple of years ago my blade key no longer matches the barrel in the door
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 and I can only find one of the keys. I am so paranoid after having the car stolen with the key a couple of years ago that I can't remember the 'safe place' I put the spare
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Hurrah! Found the spare key at last! Got into car 1st try. Weird Do i have to take the battery out to charge it or can I hook up a charger while it's in situ? 1 Lauren reacted to this
rob275 1817 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 I never got in mine, still got a broken key cos Toyota wouldn't replace it. Cunts.
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Can I hook a battery charger up without taking the battery out? Or will this damage something?
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 OK so hooked up a battery charger....alarm went off REALLY quietly - responded to key fob alarm off button...now to wait to see if it'll hold charge....I'll try it about midnight I reckon.

nikndel 509 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 And get rid of that battery and get the 65 amp one
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 I'm wondering if I only got 1 key blade that matches my door barrel after it was stolen ? The 2 keys do look the same but perhaps they're subtley different?

jevvy 40 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Anyone know any good car theft forums or car thieves, someones got to have a trick! Like folding the wing mirrors in and out in a certain sequence 😂😂 but the battery charger trick should sort it
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Alarm went off properly!! Had to take the battery out. Now the 'quiet alarm' is sounding and won't bloody stop!!!
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Just checked on the battery.....it's at 12.7V - is that enough? I want to go to bed! LOL The battery is still in the car but disconnected. if it were out completely I'd just leave it overnight and refit it in the morning...but it's not. i've an extension lead trailing from the garage across the drive and the bonnet is open....hmmmm
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted December 4, 2017 Take the battery out, make life easier for yourself. 1 Twigman reacted to this
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 5, 2017 you're right I took the battery out and left it charging on the garage floor...... at least then i won't be waking up the whole street when I reconnect it and the alarm goes off again! 1 Lauren reacted to this
Church 209 Report post Posted December 5, 2017 What i would dislike in disconnecting battery - it will clear ecu's learnt fuel trims. Clock & headunit settings reset seems non important to me.
Twigman 93 Report post Posted December 5, 2017 Had no choice. With the battery in the car, as soon as the battery was holding enough charge, the alarm went off - properly. This car is a stupid design.
Varelco 211 Report post Posted December 5, 2017 Didn't have a good day yesterday did you Twigman lol? After my battery deterioated it did the same and just went nuts, the car alarm would go off quietly and there was absolutely nothing I could do to stop it other than remove the battery terminals. That only happens when the battery is completely shot. That happened at 11pm in winter too.
