Ebc vs stoptec vs hawk

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Track day drivers.  I need to replace my brake pads before next Saturday and a day chasing Lauren round Oulton Park. Personal goal keep her in site for more than two laps.

Anyway my budget is  £200 which of the following offers the best track pad.  I must be able to drive to the circuit.

Ebc yellow pads

Stoptec performance Street pads

Hawk pads

All as seen on fensports website

Cheers

If your budget is £200 I'd consider the project Mu pads. HC800+ if you want decent daily use from them or clubracers if you're happy to sacrifice some daily drivability. Also worth looking at the carbotech offerings too.

Difficult one, the Project Mu pads are good, but more like £276 when last bought a full set. What most people are going for are PFC pads on the front (which are actually really cheap) and EBC Yellow pads on the rear. That should be well within budget. The Carbotechs are apparently very good but squeal like an absolute bastard.

So, PFC fronts and EBC yellow rears seem like the best bet. It's what Kev and a few others run.

Good luck with keeping me in sight. I've just had a major brake upgrade. :P

I'll be chasing you @Lauren I may not catch you unless you are messing about going sideways but Jack might. Still a good goal.  Do you have a garage.  I've not reserved one but going to nick a spare one

I myself driving on hybrid pads (Ferodo DS2500) .. but it's also because i focus more on street use, and not loading them much and for long on few times i get on track, limiting to short sessions with cooling inbetween, still on non very grippy tires and not supercharged. If i'd primarly focused on track side of things (like it somewhat sounded in some of posts here), i'd get track pads. Imho most hybrid pads are not enough for serious track abuse, more like oem+. A bit higher temp range, a bit more braking needed to overcook/glaze them vs stock .. but also not as much cons of track pads. Though of course question being what is that one actually wants and prioritises :). THE very best way out is to have two set of dedicated/specialised pads, one for track, one for daily, and swap them depending on use. Track pads are awful on street and street pads inadequate on track. Hybrid ones are not much of an answer either, being like what all-seasons are vs proper summer or winter tires in respective seasons.

Who's Jack? No, I never bother booking a garage, it's a rip off really. I just go and ask someone who has one to put my jerry can and helmet bag in. There weren't any spare garages last time I was there, so that is unlikely.

Jack Hardy,  he's my instructor for the day. Currently competes in the mx5 super cup

I have PFC Z rated up front and Hawk at the back. Seem like a good pairing for street and light track - no noise, cheap pads, stop well. I found Cosworth pads wear too fast and squeal too much for my taste.

I have some used but refaced etc Carbotech  XP8 front and rear i could do you a good price on as they came out my old 86, certainly a  big jump in performance over all the above mentioned pads, bit dusty and can squeak if doing gentle road use but if you want to stop these with suitable fluid are all you need :D    drop me a pm if of interest.
