Big thumbs up for Greenlight

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say a big thumbs up for Greenlight. Had my renewal through and, while it had increased as insurance seems to have recently, it had only gone up by £16 to £440 which seems pretty decent to me considering the about 55 modifications listed on the car!

The track day cover has also been fantastic - seems difficult to beat at £45 a time and double excess.

If you fit the Greenlight criteria and your renewal is due I'd definitely give them a try 👍

They wouldn’t insure me, apparently you’re only allowed a 75bhp increase in power, and the last on the phone was surprisingly sarcastic for a customer service representative. Anyway, I’m curious what 57 things have you modified?

edit: this is nonsense, sorry, got my companies mixed up!

My goodness, you're thorough. You told them about LEDs and brake fluid!

You have to, they can be very awkward and not pay out if anything happens.. stickers count too lol

Having worked in insurance previously I'd never miss anything off to be honest!

What do you expect would happen then for instance, if you hadn't told them about your, I don't know, TRD wing fins, and you pulled out in front of someone? Surely the only thing they can do is not replace your wing fins, they'd have to prove they were a contributing factor to the accident?

Obviously if you'd supercharged your engine and spun into a tree as you accelerated off a roundabout, that's a fair cop, I just don't see how something unrelated to an accident could prevent a pay out?

Do each of these things add to your premium? I've never actually had to insure a modified car before.

Most things don't change the premium at all with a specialist insurer. For me the minimal effort of making sure they know everything is worth it for the potential of no hassle down the line 👍

@Chappers it doesn't necessarily have to be a contributing factor, but they can be/are funny like that and not pay out because of your not declared rear diffuser even though you've got a front end damage.. it's happened to many people before, I guess it's up to you whether you want to risk it or not

By the way, these are genuine questions of interest because they're affecting me in the near future... Last one, what if you buy a modified car second-hand and don't know fully what's modified and what isn't?

Also, it's not so much the idea that the mods cause the accident more that the cover they provide is based on the detail of the car and mods so they can make life very difficult if the details of the car and mods are different come the time of an accident. When I worked for the brokers I saw companies do anything from charging a  retrospective premium to refusing the cover as their argument was that what they'd covered wasn't a true reflection of the actual car.

That final question is where it all gets a bit hazy sadly.

I’m sorry, you’re right I’m talking balls, it was Chris Knott. I didn’t call Greenlight because the missus only has 20 months on her UK license and they required at least three years.

Apologies, I made far too many phone calls yesterday and got mixed up.
