Neal 111 Report post Posted February 27, 2017 Morning all. I've just spent most of my night shift at work looking at brake fluids. To many reviews and the late hour has mashed my brain which isn't hard to do in normal hours. Is dot.5.1 actually any better then dot4? What does dot actually mean? What is the go to fluid for a road track combination? Thanks all
Church 209 Report post Posted February 27, 2017 wasn't from dot4 ones best temps wise Torque RT700?

I wouldn't recommend a race fluid like that unless you like flushing it through often! What people often overlook is that the high temp brake fluids tend to have a higher absorption rate of moisture. @Neal its down to the viscosity and boiling point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOT_5.1 I'd suggest a dot 5.1 will be fine and can go 2 years between services unlike race fluid. I use Motel Dot 5.1 currently. 1 Neal reacted to this
Neal 111 Report post Posted February 27, 2017 Thanks Gents. 5.1 it is. I think I'll uprate the brake lines at the same time. @Ade as the forums main equipment guru is there a particular brand/type of brake line which recommended or is it a simple choice of hell and Goodrich. Thanks again

Thanks again I've got Hel at the front and Goodridge at the back! Quite a few people recently fitted HEL and the quality seems good. 1 Neal reacted to this
Mike 458 Report post Posted February 27, 2017 I've got Hel lines... on my table at home, will be going on the car next month though, just need to sort some new brake pads first.
Church 209 Report post Posted February 27, 2017 Ade: but wet boiling points also seem rather high for best fluids like RT700 & even more so, SRF, even if/with moisture absorbed, not freshly flushed.
