tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 I bought a part for the car. Planning to cut a peace and this peace is going to be exact positive for the clear acrylic/plastic (excuse my terminology) so i can put a light in it. I just don't know how can I make it, yet... tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 I am trying to make this. vacuum forming or 3d printer is not going to work. got the spoiler. have to cut a piece and that piece is the exact shape of the brake lights. so it has to be clear but to match, i will put a black film or transparent black paint on it. 1 chillismoke reacted to this
tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 I think found. it's called crystal resin...
chillismoke 182 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 Can you not fit the brake so it's flush with the spoiler so that it does not need a plastic cover?
tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 6, 2014 i don't have the brake light because spoiler has its own curve and shape. i have to cut the piece and make a mould. then i have to use crystal resin. well, i am watching videos atm. and learning

Special K 442 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 If I did that I'd want a sensor fitted that would flash the brake light mid-corner when the Golf/BMW idiot was three foot from my bumper..... Spec K 1 tegunulgener reacted to this
rob275 1817 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 I look forward to seeing this will look awesome.
tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 @rob: I am trying to make it look awesome as I want to make something proper. Because of that I am being careful and taking my time. @Keith: yes I can fit a proximity sensor but that would be dangerous in traffic. but i like the idea a lot... apart from that, when I finish the project I am going to keep the moulds so I can make more whoever wants... tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 Looks good to me, I want to do this but on a bigger spoiler I guess it would be much easier on bigger spoilers as there are some ready kits just to attach on bigger spoilers. This TRD spoiler is small in every angle.

Pitman 188 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 Teg, Have you ever done any moulding with resin before? If not, you will find that you will end up with a LOT of micro-bubbles in the resin when you mix it with the catalyst. Two ways to deal with this: 1) Use a slow catalyst, and leave the resin to stand for long enough after mixing, before you pour it, to allow it to fully de-gas. 2) (The preferred way) Once mixed, de-gas the resin in a proper vacuum chamber. Depending on where you live, I have the necessary equipment, and I am more than willing to help you. Also, make sure you use UV stabilised epoxy resin, or you will find it yellowing with time. tegunulgener 84 Report post Posted November 7, 2014 I think it is uv stabilised resin. I'm not worried about bubbles because I'm going to use 2 moulds. This one is for hard surface. Then I'm going to use another layer for smooth surface which is silicone rubber mould. But pitman, thank you for your help. Honestly man, I'm in Southampton. I really needed those vacuum chamber today.
