  1. Some of you may remember that we joined up with LoT last year to offer some sensible and cheap trackdays to our Premium Members. We're doing the same this year as last year was such a success. This is the third day on the list but i'm posting it before the second... just because I can! Donington has been requested by a few people so hopefully we can have a good day at this one. The only prerequisite to joining up on these trackdays is that you are currently a Premium Member. If you sign up and aren't a Premium Member of the GT86 Drivers Club you will be refunded your money and your booking cancelled. The circuit is one of the truly great circuits in Europe with a mix of fast and slow corners and with one of the most famous sections in the world, the Craner Curves. Not suitable for your first ever track day. Directions & Accommodation: Click Here Length: 1.9 miles Noise limit: 98db driveby at trackside** Format: Open Pit Lane Price: £175 until 1/6 then £199 Instruction: £25 Crash Helmets: £20 2nd Drivers: FREE (must sign on by 16.45 and attend first briefing. Must also be experienced track day driver and complete the sighting laps.) Passengers: FREE ** Noise – please note it is 98db drive by at trackside – there is no static test. You must bring a full driving licence which will be checked at sign on. ANY vehicle without a hard top or fixed roof will require occupants to wear full face helmets. Final instructions will be emailed out 3 days before the event. To book go to the following link: http://goo.gl/i90CfE
  2. This is the second LoT Trackday we have the pleasure of attending this year. Blyton is a bit of a favourite as not only is it part of the TSS every year, it's also a great technical. but short track for the GT86 & BRZ. On top of that, it's relatively cheap! The only prerequisite to joining up on these trackdays is that you are currently a Premium Member. If you sign up and aren't a Premium Member of the GT86 Drivers Club you will be refunded your money and your booking cancelled. Originally a WW2 airfield Blyton Park was for many years used for the odd grasstrack event, but new owners have breathed new life into the circuit. With new tarmac and plenty of grass and concrete run off Blyton is a deceptively fast and technical circuit, which can challenge experienced drivers, yet also provide a fun and safe first time out experience for novices. 1.6miles long, the track is fairly flat. Maybe the UK’s Abbeville. The day will run in open pit lane format. Directions: click here Length: 1.6 miles Noise limit: 105db static / 95db drive by 20m Format: Open Pit Lane Price: £125 Instruction: £25 Crash Helmets: £20 2nd Drivers: FREE You must bring a full driving licence which will be checked at sign on. Final instructions will be emailed out 3 days before the event In order to book on to this day click the following link: http://goo.gl/x8VJDE
  3. Luckily i've been able to secure us a nice little track here, some of you may remember that we joined up with LoT last year to offer some sensible and cheap trackdays to our Premium Members. We're doing the same this year as last year was such a success. The first day on the list is Anglesey, which is probably going to be favourable for those who are doing the TSS, it may give you a chance to familiarise yourself with parts of the circuit beforehand. The only prerequisite to joining up on these trackdays is that you are currently a Premium Member. If you sign up and aren't a Premium Member of the GT86 Drivers Club you will be refunded your money and your booking cancelled. Day is being run in Open Pit Lane format and suitable for all experience levels. Directions & Accommodation: HERE Length: 2.1 (GP) & 1.55 (coastal) miles Noise limit: 105db static Format: Open Pit Lane Price: £235 Instruction: £25 Crash Helmets: £20 2nd Driver: FREE (must sign on by 8.25am and attend first briefing at 8.30am. Must also be experienced track day driver and complete the sighting laps) You must bring a full driving licence which will be checked at sign on. TSS Round 6 @ Snetterton 100

The Snetterton 100 circuit in Norfolk utilises a split so that we can run the circuit with a lapping procedure which doubles the length. Starting at the circuit access point at Agostini and then running the circuit as normal until you reach the split after Palmer where you run left on the first lap into Agostini at speed and using the right lane of the split to go through the finish before leaving circuit. The longer circuit length means that are big gains to be made for those who perfect their technique. Circuit Layout – 100 Circuit Circuit Length – Approx 1.9 Miles Competiton Licence* – Available for purchase at signing on for £5 per individual event or £15 for the year Competition Plates, Numbers & Sticker Packs* – Available for collection at the events only at a one off cost of £10. You are required to display competition plates with your competiton numbers on your doors throughout the event along with the series sponsor stickers. We advise that you mount your stickers on magnetic plates if you wish to remove them between events Helmet Hire* – Available on the day for £15 *Please note that all transactions on the day are cash only Purchase Entry

    TSS Round 5 @ Croft

TSS ventures up north for a trip to what is a lot of people favourite venue in Croft Circuit, Darlington. Starting and finishing on the start/finish straight we run almost the entire unaltered circuit bar a few hundred metres which means those who are commited can make big gains in Crofts fast sweeping corners before negotiating the hairpin for a clean finish. We are able to use Croft by using a day that would normally be unavailable to us by utilising careful noise management. This means that noise is strictly monitored at this venue as individuals can push the average noise levels up and spoil the event for everyone so those who are taking part in the preceding rounds should be well aware by this point if they need to carry out some work on the car before attending this round. Drivers who are found to be causing a problem will be removed from the event so the quieter everyone is the better the event will run so the whole series should try and ensure their vehicles are as quiet as can they can be. Circuit Length – Approx 1.9 Miles Competiton Licence* – Available for purchase at signing on for £5 per individual event or £15 for the year Competition Plates, Numbers & Sticker Packs* – Available for collection at the events only at a one off cost of £10. You are required to display competition plates with your competiton numbers on your doors throughout the event along with the series sponsor stickers. TSS Round 4 @ Anglesey Circuit

TSS goes overseas and travels abroad to the island of Anglesey for it’s first ever event outside of England. Anglesey Circuit is a new additional to calendar for 2016 and well worth the trip, you’ll be able to tackle the circuits challenging corners whilst enjoying the scenic views. TSS will be sharing this event with the Javelin Trackdays Sprint Series so this means that entries for each series will initially be limited so they are shared equally between them so we advise you to get your entry in ealy so as not to miss out. Circuit Length – TBC Competiton Licence* – Available for purchase at signing on for £5 per individual event or £15 for the year Competition Plates, Numbers & Sticker Packs* – Available for collection at the events only at a one off cost of £10. TSS Round 3 @ Woodbridge

Woodbridge Airfield in Suffolk has been a staple for the TSS calendar since 2008. The layout resembles a rally stage in nature more than a circuit with by far the most corners of any of the venues, from tight and twisty sections to fast sweeping corners it has a little of everything and rewards the braver drivers to are willing to attack it. The track dips in and out of the hangar complex and although very open the small bushes at the side of the track can make it feel narrow at times but give the driver a greater sense of speed than anything else on the calendar. As it’s an airfield we have an almost endless number of configurations we can use so the circuit is rarely exactly the same every visit, cones and plastic blocks are used to define the track but only at junctions. Using a lot of the normal trackday circuit layout means the surface gets regular use to scrub the surface (you can even clearly see where the track goes by looking at a satellite view of the airfield) but the track being used gets cleaned using our Hurricane blower beforehand to make it as clean as possible. Circuit Length – Approx 1.3 Miles Competiton Licence* – Available for purchase at signing on for £5 per individual event or £15 for the year Competition Plates, Numbers & Sticker Packs* – Available for collection at the events only at a one off cost of £10. You are required to display competition plates with your competiton numbers on your doors throughout the event along with the series sponsor stickers. TSS Round 2 @ Blyton Park

Blyton Park in Lincolnshire has become a series regular since it first appeared on the calendar back in 2011. At the time it was a somewhat dirty bit of concrete using bales and tyres to mark out a course on what was left of the runway and was closer to a rally stage than a sprint course. That winter however the circuit was transformed by a new owner and a large investment into the drivers playground it is today, the concrete surface of the airfield is still in place but now it serves as runoff for the silky smooth surface of the tarmac layed into it. This means that the venue has the benefits of a race circuit but without the barriers that come with it allowing drivers to explore their limits knowing they have that forgiving extra runoff. Blyton Park also boasts several confirgurations after further tarmac was layed over the past few years meaning the two appearances on the calendar provide more than enough variety to warrant the extra visit. Circuit Layout – TBC Circuit Length – Approx 1.6 Miles Competiton Licence* – Available for purchase at signing on for £5 per individual event or £15 for the year Competition Plates, Numbers & Sticker Packs* – Available for collection at the events only at a one off cost of £10. Grasshopper Social - 30th January

  15. Evening all, I was wondering what everyones experience is with Warranty jobs? The scenario is I've booked my 2012 GT86 in at Toyota as I've got a few issues: Fogging up/condensation in the rear lights Key light flashing orange with bleep every now and then when I get out the car. Random starting issues (takes a while to start sometimes, requires some attention from the throttle to get going) I cant put the passenger window down with the switch on the drivers door. When I open the Drivers door, the window pops down as normal. When I shut it, it doesn't pop back up! Meaning I have to go around the passenger side before I switch the ignition off to lean over and fully close the window! Now I bought the car used with 2 years warranty still remaining on it back in September. Does anyone think they will try and wiggle out of the above issues? I've heard of other manufactures long warranties not being worth the paper they're written on. It's a bit annoying that I've bought a new-ish car with warranty to try and dodge niggly problems and it's exactly what I've got! It's also annoying that they cant fit me in until the 25th to look at it, but if they're busy I cant really do much about it. Any other advice about working with Toyota to get these issues resolved is appreciated. I realise this is a bit of a "Non-Problem" but knowing my luck, it can only get worse ! haha. Cheers.

    Next years TSS Shoes

Looking for shoes for next years Toyota Sprint Series for Balloo Enkei are releasing the GTC01RR in Feb and it's on my shortlist, but does anyone else have any suggestions for shoes? I was going to go for the RS05RR but these look more similar to my current wheels and I do like my Titans but could always do with something lighter. It's worth noting the GTC01RR are 18" and i'm looking at a Staggered fitment 8.5" front 9.5" rear aware that it's going to induce understeer but I think with a little bit of play on the geo setup all will be fine and dandy. They come in at about £1600 which isn't too bad and a fraction of the price of forged offerings on the market at a near identical weight. I would have already got them but xmas has ruined me money wise so they are on the back burner until around Feb anyway.

  20. I’ve started this thread which will probably be like a small Mods blog as i’ve never really set one up for my car. I’ve always thought about boosting my GT86 but never really decided on a route or if it would be viable. But after driving Maz’s car a fair bit on the road and once on track it made sense to go the Centrifugal Supercharged route. For the style of driving and type of roads I drive it made sense. The HKS supercharger to me just feels like a bigger block NA car. You don’t get that sudden rush of power in one peak. It just keeps climbing and climbing. Over 6.5krpm is just awesome! Being hands on and quite technical and capable I decided i’d fit the kit myself as a sense of achievement and a little personal project with the help from Maz at HKS Europe. We picked this weekend as it gives me the extra bank holiday day and fitted in best with Adrian mapping it at Fensport this week. We started the install at about 5:30 Friday evening with the plan to get all the prep work and old bits off the car so that Saturday morning we could start fitting the go-faster bits. The Manual is relatively easy to understand although at times the Japanese to English translation is a little poor. But luckily with having Maz to help he could read the Japanese ones and it all made sense! First thing is to get the Bumper off and expose the front of the car. Along with unbolting the crash bar as we fit some brackets to this for the Intercooler. We also remove the bonnet catch and top bonnet support for later. Also free’d up the Oil cooler and made sure this was out the way temporarily whilst fitting the new parts. What’s impressive with the HKS kit is the amount of dedication and precision gone into planning the kits. We spent a fair couple of hours adding clips to existing hoses and supporting stock parts for the preparation of them receiving positive boost. Parts like the canister can under the manifold. Usually the hoses are just pushed on loosely. But now they’ll see positive pressure HKS actually supply clips to add to these hoses to make sure they don’t pop off! It would be a real PITA if one popped after install! It just gives a little bit of piece of mind that you’re adding reliability. Interestingly Version 1 of the supercharger didn’t have these extras! But they added them for Version 2. Once this was all done and the fiddly bits out of the way we had the car ready to receive boost! We have to add a bracket to the underside of the Crash beam which will be used to support the intercooler so we got this added and in place. This is fiddly as you’ve got to get a nut on the bolt which is half way along from an opening at the end! We got there in the end! Also had to cut a little channel in the upper bonnet support for the charge pipe to come back into the engine bay. Next up was fitting the actual compressor to the car. The bracket is very substantial and quality is outstanding. Everything just fitting into place lined up and went perfectly. The bracket basically fits into the existing holes in the Alternator and fits in really well. After a few bolts, belt on and tensioner released we had the unit in place! We then went ahead and mounted the intercooler in place. It looks as though it sits on the bottom shelf. But it actually hanging from 2 bracket. Its a very good fit and the HKS kit hasn’t failed to impress regarding quality and fitment! This charger uses a traction fluid system with it’s own oil cooler to lubricate the charger components. A tank is mounted just beside the airbox, using two existing holes in the support just below the bonnet release. After cutting the supplied hoses to length, adding an inline filter and clipping it all on. The traction fluid system was in place along with the cooler, bottle, lines and filter. It's important to get the traction fluid cool and ensure everything is working correctly. As this can seriously damage the compressor if the fluid isn't there as expected! Now to put the stock airbox back into it’s location ready for the intake suction pipe. Any airbox or induction that uses the stock intake pipe location should fit with this kit. Here we put a restrictor plate between the supercharger and the intake air box. The restrictor is a simple plate which sandwiches between the intake pipe and the charger with two gaskets. It restricts the power from the capable 400hp to about 300hp to use on a stock engine block! The restrictor is great as it keeps all the available torque and power low and and just clips the peak power towards the top end. You can of course run it without a restrictor if you dare on a stock engine! The great thing with this unit is if you do decide to go for a forged engine you can simply remove the restrictor, tweak the map and you’ll be able to produce around 400hp comfortably with the same kit. We then plumbed in the intercooler which is a fiddly job as there isn’t much room, especially if you have the oil cooler installed too! This kit was obviously designed, tested and fitted in Japan where they do not have HID headlights also meaning they haven't got the headlight washers! Which actually get in the way a fair bit on the UK cars as the headlight washers sit just where the pipe wants to naturally sit. But after some persuasion and careful positioning it does all go back in and the headlight washer still works. Moving on by connecting up the throttle body intake pipe from the intercooler. This bit was straight forward. The pipe sits in the neat hole that was cut earlier on in the process. All connecting up and on the throttle body. We have a completed plumbed in Supercharger. We have to take a vacuum line from the vacuum brake line so that the Recirc valve can work. For this we simply take a T-Piece in the original vacuum line and connect it to the valve. At this point the install is done! We topped up the traction fluid tank. Fired it up and ensured there are no air leaks and fluid is circulating ok. Starts first time and the sound is just fantastic. A real rushing of air and breathing sound! One with the final bits like the bumper, and side indicators etc. And it’s finished! All together it took us around 12 hours with two of us working on it. What helped was Maz’s ability to know stuff as he’d already done it on his car. Little tips and tricks to make things easier and the knowledge of knowing what we we’re un-doing was correct! The manual makes it easy as the install is split up into smaller chunks of work. So you’re only ever aiming for one goal at a time. Such as ‘Fit the intercooler’ - ‘For this you will need’. Rather than tackling the entire project with all the bits in one go. Off to Fensport today for the map! Once i've driven it with some boost i'll report back
  21. I’ve been on the hunt for a spoiler / wing for the last few months and been looking around. Part of me wanted something small, effective and discrete. And other parts of me wanted to go all out and hang a massive carbon wing off the back of it. Knowing I didn’t have 400-500bhp to warrant a massive wing. I decided to go somewhere in the middle. And try find a high rise spoiler to sit off the boot lid but one that wasn’t to big. I’d always had my eye on the Aero spoiler but part of me thinks once they come down in price it won’t be so special and they’ll be common. And the easy option to just bolt it on. I felt anything that was nice or easy was just being done. The TRD ducktail seems to be a common one because its easy to fit, solves the solution to the holes in the spoiler and cheaper to get painted. There were a couple of other options but nothing really caught my eye. They all had an element I didn’t like, or the mounts looks bulky and horrible. Or the cost of getting them prepped and painted was ridiculous. Whilst looking around on ebay a GTR R35 spoiler came up and got me thinking. Knowing it probably wouldn’t fit I didn’t get too excited but I knew this was the sort of spoiler and height that I wanted. Fensport actually had a GT86 specific GTR style wing. But the mounts were quite bulky and it was too rounded for my liking. The GTR wing looks very well built and angular. Which works very well. So I decided i’d buy the GTR Spoiler. The guy on ebay took £80 including shipping for a carbon wrapped 2010 R35 Spoiler. So I took the plunge and went for it. It arrived and I set out working out how to fit it. It sat on the boot lid perfectly. It lined up with the car perfectly. But the mount didn’t sit flush on the boot lid, as expected. The first bit of the mount sat flush but the GT86 boot lid curves downwards towards the edge and front. So decided I would need to make some custom brackets to fit it. First up was to make a Fibreglass Mould of the boot lid…. Taped up the boot lid so that I could remove the mould and it didn’t stick to the paint work… Then time to apply the fibreglass resin and glass cloth…. To get a rough idea of the size and shape I made some styrofoam templates to get a rough idea. Obviously one issue that needed to be resolved was the holes in the front of the boot lid which were used to hold the original stock spoiler on. From the inside I applied a layer of fibreglass to block the hole up. Then added filler of this and smoothed it all out. Once dry I then rubbed it all down and smoothed it over. At this point I had a boot with no holes, two fibreglass moulds, a very dusty bedroom and a car without a boot. Next up I placed the fibreglass moulds onto the boot lid and taped them down so they were in place. Added some insulation tape over the whole lot and lined the spoiler up in its perfect position to where it needed to sit on the boot lid. By adding the insulation tape it allowed me to press the spoiler down and create a mark on it ready for drilling. The spoiler has bolts built in to it which made it easier to line up and lock the spoiler in place. Concentrating on just one bolt for now I removed the other two. Marked the position this bolt needed to go and then drilled through the fibreglass and boot lid. With the spoiler now lined up on the boot lid and in position with the nut and bolt in the correction location it was time to stick the fibreglass to the GTR mount. Bolted it up tight and left it to dry. Filled in the gaps with styrofoam to give the fibre glass some support and a little more shape. Once all was dry unbolted the spoiler from the boot lid and removed the mounts from the top part of the GTR spoiler. The GTR spoiler is in 3 parts. The two side mounts and the top edge. Which can be taken apart. I then cut off the excess fibreglass to the rough shape of the existing mount. Filled all gaps and smoothed with Body Filler. Next up was hours and hours of smoothing, sanding, filling, rubbing, priming, filling and more sanding. Some sanding done with an electric sander. Sand paper and wet and dry. It was difficult to get both mounts perfect and identical whilst keeping a perfect shape and smooth. At this point I drilled through the entire mount and added the bolts back in to all 3 locations. With extended bolts. This works well as its then using the original mount as the mounting point and not relying on my new fibreglass mount. My fibre glass mount almost becomes a sandwiched bit between the bootlid and original spoiler mount. After lots of sanding. lots of concentration, lots of dust and patience I finally had something which looks like it would be acceptable to fit to my car! Also added in a single cable to make it easy to thread the brake light cable through the mount. Bit more sanding for good luck.. Next up gave the mounts a good thick spray of filler primer. This showed up all the imperfections and indents and small marks. So more filling, sanding smoothing and dusty bedroom. At all times test fitting it on the boot lid to ensure it still fitted and the shape of the mount was correct. Next up I made the commitment and drilled the other two holes in the boot lid. Added in the bolts, put the spoiler back together and for the first time sat the spoiler with the new mounts on the boot lid.. And it fits! Almost perfect! Couple of 1mm gaps! So bit more sanding, little filler and a wet and dry sand. Also in this time I had the boot lid sent off to the body shop to have a full sand fill and respray to ensure the holes were filled. paint was brand new and looked amazing. Next up you have to drop the drill with your sharpest steel drill piece onto your new full can of primer spray paint. So that it immediately starts pissing out primer all over the place which you try and grab and get outside asap, but fail. For now I’ve had to wrap the Spoiler as i’ve not had a chance to get it into the body shop for respray and haven't yet added the centre mount to it. Got it fitted onto the car again and wired in the brake light. Done this by removing the old brake light cable and extending it to the original GTR brake light. This means i’ll be able to get rid of the after thought 3rd brake light on the rear parcel shelf. It probably took me around 50 hours to get this on the car. it was 3 solid weekends and a few nights. Hours of sanding, hours of filling and hours of waiting for things to dry. Sore fingers, spray paint everywhere, cut fingers and some stressful / ‘Oh Bugger’ moments. But obviously like everything the first one would always be hardest. I’ve not driven it much since having it fitted or hard enough to notice a difference. It does feel a bit more planted on the back and can actually feel a slightly different steering feel. Not sure how much it really says but without the centre mount the middle flexes a fair bit. Looking in the rear view mirror at higher speeds the spoiler is actually flexing in the centre. I reference it with the rear brake light and it probably drops around 10 - 15mm once getting up to speed. So I believe it is actually generating some downforce. Being off a genuine GTR they've’ probably done some research into it having some aero benefits. Probably not enough to notice. But I done this mod more for looks and the appearance. I’ll add the centre mount in soon and see how that changes things. But next up is to just extend the centre mount a few mm to make it fit better. This will stop the spoile flexing in the centre and stop some ressination you can hear under low RPM high engine load accelerations. For those of you who are super worried about weights and adding weight you'll be surprised to know the stock GTR spoiler is very well built and only weighs 3kg. The stock spoiler weighs in at 1.8kg. The GTR spoiler with my custom brackets brake light and bolts is 3kg. I can also remove the brake light from the back of the car. So for the added looks, better brake light and maybe extra downforce I don't mind adding 1kg. Will also be getting it all sprayed in a High Gloss Black to match my wheels and TRD accents. I might make it red in due course if I feel the black is a little too outgoing and in your face. Total cost to do this was around £350 £80 for the spoiler (From ebay) £20 for the Brake Light (From and GTR Owners Club member) £200 in respray / smoothing of the boot lid. (Local body shop) £50 in filler, sandpaper and bits etc.

    Ordered for 1st September

Hello everyone, a few weeks ago I took the plunge and ordered my GT86, standard car with sat nav in pearlescent white. Whilst my kids were growing up I always had "practical" cars if you know what I mean. Well they are all grown up now so time for a bit of fun. Wish I could fast forward to 1st September. I suppose you can call me a rusty petrol head. Any suggestions as to what small (but essential) modifications I should attend to bearing in mind a limited budget? Mike
